We moved from Calallen this past May to College Station.
Its way too early to say if Corpus is gonna get a direct hit, but after living in the area since '86, I cant help but think Corpus is way overdue - especially Padre Island. I cant believe people would want to buy & build homes on Padre. I think they are even planning on building an elementary school on the Island, right?

Bless you, sweetie. You did the right thing, standing in line --- you're prepared.
Now be sure to eat any ice cream you might have in your freezer... I learned the hard way with Katrina that cleaning up melted ice cream is no fun at all.
Prayers for you and all of Texas and everyone in this monster's path.
You're absolutely right: Houston/Galveston is a huge, major hub for our economy and the energy capital of the world.

Stay safe. You are just a wee bit south of us. We live in the southwest quadrant of FM 2818 & Hwy 6 in C.S.
I think if Rita hits anywhere north of Matagorda Bay we should be prepared to lose electrical power for a while.
Also, be on the lookout for tornadoes.
We have some fair size trees nearby and I dont like the thought of them getting knocked over.

Good luck, and stay safe; That must have been a very hard decision w/regards to your poor dog, but sometimes practicality must override sentimentality. My thoughts are with you.

Just talked to my best friend from high school. He lives near Mason Rd. in Katy. His wife, their five kids, and his wife's parents will be leaving tonight to head to his brother's place near Dallas. My friend has to work, and won't be heading out there until Friday morning.
He says Mason Rd. is a madhouse right now -- heavily congested, panic-buying at all the gas stations, store shelves emptying fast...

CAT 5 --- this is a monster. I am stunned looking at the pics on Fox -- Rita consumes almost the whole of the Gulf! That's what I was thinking to myself earlier. Rita looks much larger than Katrina.

Rita "IS" larger and stronger. I am just stunned --- like in NUMB.

Present!
Mr. h and I will make decision in next few hours. We have food, batteries, etc. but if Houston is going to get it, we're heading for Hill Country. At any rate, we are preparing for both Plan A (staying) or Plan B (Hill Country) and to make that decision asap. We are in West Houston.

Earlier today on the Weather Channel, they zoomed in on the eye of the hurricane and it is VERY WELL defined and packed eye.

Mom's evacuating tonight with my sister-in-law, nephew and niece.
They're headed to Lake Charles to stay with the sister-in-law's family.
(It doesn't make sense to me, either...
I wanted to head WEST, but got outvoted.)
My two brothers have to work ½ day tomorrow,
So the cat and I will be traveling with them.
One glitch: my other sister-in-law is branch manager of one of the local banks.
Believe it or not, she has to stay through Saturday.
It probably means my one brother will stay and hunker down with her.
It's still being discussed, but I figure they should be safe if they lock themselves inside the vault.

I am out of here first thing in the morning heading to Oklahoma. I was just about to ask you about that.
How about the PsychoDog?

Sounding off, heading to OK in the morning with the psycho dog who has never done a road trip. Could be interesting.
