Fast Response for Hurricane Halliburton

Posted on 09/21/2005 9:45:22 AM PDT by Diana in Wisconsin

A letter to the editor September 21, 2005

Dear Editor: Looks like the federal government really can respond fast to a national disaster after all.

Someone at a high level in Washington gave a contract for cleanup to Halliburton about as fast as they got troops to New Orleans.

Are there no federal bidding processes? No contractors in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast who'd like work cleaning up their own home territory? No displaced skilled workers who'd love a chance to rebuild their community?

At least in the days after Katrina, Dick Cheney was likely to be found - dealing out contracts to his buddies in his former company to pad their pockets.

Boy, they're slow on the uptake! Over three weeks to mention the Halliburton angle? The Left is totally slipping, LOL! :)

Proof? Or just another urban legend? Seems to me the MSM would be all over any contracts to Halliburton.

Dear Sara,

If your home is trashed in a storm, are you going to try to rebuild it yourself, or are you going to call the people who have established that they can get the job done quickly and thoroughly? Are you going to take 3 months to review bids and add more time and money to costs, or are you going to go with the people you have on retainer.

Dear Sara, get a clue and stop seeing an evil Republican conspiracy in everything.

Consider the city of origin. They can't get a clue. It's not allowed.

If they can suggest anyone who is even remotely qualified to do what Haliburton does, by all means speak up!

(Although I must confess that I have it on good authority that Teddy the swimmer is reputed to be able to suck up vast quantities of petro-chemicals ;'}

Thanks, Mew! It's time-consuming having to educate the left every day, isn't it? ;)

My understanding is that this subsidiary of Halliburton is the only entity that has the equipment on hand and is ready to roll. In addition to waiting for months of review process, any new contractor would probably spend an appreciable lenght of time acquiring the necessary equipment.

Well then take the equipment away from them and give it to Jesse Jackson. Jesse knows how to build things. He just doesn't run his mouth off you know. The vision of the Greeks. The work ethic of the Romans. Ah yes.

If every single person who ever criticized Halliburton got together and started a similar company, they still could not handle the enormous projects Halliburton handles.
The reason they get these contracts is because they are the only company who can do it.

Of course the libs would prefer to give the contracts to the French Company -- which I understand is the only other company that can do what Brown and Root does.

There was a Keller Brown & Root, (a subsidiary of Halliburton) contract in place with the NAVY to repair such damage, should it occur. This competitively-bid contract was let last year, if I recall.

There was a thread on it. I'll try to dig it up

Ah, yes, the same Jesse who told the Detroit auto industry blacks should not be docked for arriving late to work because time clocks were not part of the african culture. (You sarcasm noted, obviously.)

For cryin' out loud. Nobody on the Left side of the fence complained when Halliburton got the lion's share of contracts under Komrade Klinton! They oughta stick a sock in it already. Damn.
