NEW YORK -- The New York Times Co. said Tuesday it would cut 500 jobs, or about 4 percent of its work force, as part of an ongoing effort to reduce costs. The reductions come atop another 200 jobs that were cut earlier this year.

Personally, I find the Times scratchy and not absorbent enough. Even after repeated applications, I never feel really clean "down there."

4% = good start

downside: 500 more panhandlers and squeegee wipers

I think the NYT's Gay Newsroom Caucus has first claim on the pink slip. They take turns wearing it at Guild meetings.

The WSJ is family owned. Cramer did a thing on them the other night on Mad Money. He said the family (can't remember the name) isn't in it for the money, they just want 'their' kind of paper.

But wait! These are people's jobs...everyone should have a job, whether they are needed or not.

Funny how the NYT seems to think socialism is a great concept except when it is their money at stake!

I feel bad for those losing their jobs, but I love seeing the NYT constricting, tightening, trying to stay relevant and viable.

Perhaps we will be able to see someday in our lives: "NYT to close doors..."

After that, we can start counting the days until the Boston Globe, Washington Post and LA Times follow that same path.

This is like "The 8th Sense" (of course, out of respect to "The Sixth Sense" where the kid sees dead people, and "The Seventh Sense" where he sees gay people) in "The Eighth Sense" he sees dead newspapers...they just don't know they are dead...

>>>I nominate Maureen Dowd for a pink slip!

Me, me, me, me, me too!

Sorry to copy her writing style. Count the number of I's and me's in her "writings." It's truly amazing.

Shouldn't Krugman, Dowd, Herbert, Rich, etc. practice what they preach and each take a huge pay cut in order for some of their fellow employees to keep their jobs?

I thought they believed in sacrificing for the common good.

Can't trust these print media outlets and one has to look for accuracy and no spin news at other places, unless you allow these scribes to convert you into unquestioning liberal followers.
Just look at these poor same minded Europeans.
Besides, as an Investors Business Daily poll revealed regular print media readers are the most negative news consumers.
Readership declines, good, perhaps that gets the message of needed changes at their news sections towards accuracy and impartiality across.

It would be best if the editors and publishers took major pay cuts. Isn't that what dems always call for? What about the little guys? Why should they suffer while the corporate fat cats stay fat? Off with their heads..(hehe)
