I had an entirely different column written for this week, edited and ready to go. Then I read this spectacularly stupid interview by Governor Blanco on the Net. This HAD to be written up.

Google the whole interview. Other parts are as lame and dumb as the parts quoted here.

As usual, this is posted on FR before its Internet or print media publications.

If wishes were horses,
Beggars would ride.

In this case, being stupid and irresponsible seem to provide an airlift of their own, right into the ether.

She seems a master at confuso-speak.

Despite wrongful claims of his lack of intelligence (you have to be pretty stupid to get elected president of the United States?), President Bush would recognize a request for the National Guard, even for something such as buses, from Louisiana *when* he heard it. She always tries not to admit what EXACTLY she asked the president for.

I do not know how the nursing home operators can be charged with negligent homicide and the mayor of NO and the governor of LA aren't.

You know what I keep recalling?

Cities and parishes are political subdivisions of the state of Louisianna. The city of New Orleans, a gulf port city, much of it below sea level, between a giant lake and the Mississippi River, had a police department that only owned three powered boats. Two were "out of service" at the time of the hurricane.

Let the Good Times Roll.

When she was running for Governor, she got the buses rolling in New Orleans Parish, with signs and Dixieland bands to turn out voters for Blanco. Which is the higher priority – getting votes for Blanco, or saving lives? Hellooo.

ROTF!

Those who vote based on race or gender risk the fallout from incompetence.

This woman is in WAY over her head.

“BLANCO: Well, that was at a point in time when we were wondering if we were getting any significant federal aid. I guess because of the dynamics of the situation, when I asked for help, then I started getting bombarded with, ‘Did you ask specifically for this, that or the other.’ .... When people ask me for help, I know what kind of help I can get to them, and I can get it to them pretty quickly... Nobody bothered to ask me those questions.”

Just stunning. This isn't your typical political non-answer, this is rambling from someone who doesn't sound like they know what's going on at all.

I continue to wonder about how the people of Washington state feel about their female governor Gregoire, (who only won the election by re-counting and manufacturing sufficient votes), in light of Katrina.

Wonder how secure they feel about her ability to handle a catastrophe in their state.

Hard to trust a cheater...

Honestly... the more I hear coming out of this woman's mouth.. the more I'm convinced she ran for office because of all the great parties she'd be invited to....and could get "really neat stuff". Sigh. She could star in her own version of the movie "Clueless".

Great column, thanks for posting it!! When will we get a film along the lines of.....

"Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" (actual Jim Carrey movie)

now what we need is:

"Dumb and Dumberer: When Mayor Nagin Met Governor Blankhead"
