CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2005--Federated Department Stores, Inc. (NYSE:FD) (PCX:FD) today announced a series of strategic decisions to build its nationwide Macy's and Bloomingdale's brands and reduce costs. These moves will help stimulate long-term growth in sales while taking full advantage of integration opportunities created through the merger of Federated and The May Department Stores Company, which was completed on Aug. 30, 2005.

In the 1950's, we lived in Whittier, Calif. At the time, only small and medium-sized department stores such as Myers and Hinshaw's were available locally, and one had to go to Los Angeles to shop at the larger stores.
About once a month, we would dress up in suits and spend the entire day shopping at the May Co. department store on Sixth and Hill in downtown LA., which had merchandise available on six floors, if I remember correctly. We might have lunch at the store's cafeteria, or perhaps at the Italian Kitchen across the street, or Clifton's Cafeteria nearby.
Clifton's is still there, but the May Co. store closed about 35 years ago. Hinshaw's and Myers are also long gone.
Part of it I think was that she was an executive's wife but had risen from poorer circumstances (her family was Old Blood and No Money -- we are descended through her from the brother of George Walton, who was a Signer for Georgia.) She felt that she had to keep up a certain standard . . . and she did. Had her hair done every week until she died.
Didn't Dayton's/Marshall Field's make some sort of statement about not having a store in the Mall of America in the first place?
Same for my grandma... and she always had her hair done every week, too. Seems like that was the case for most women "way back when"...
There are STILL a couple of elderly ladies who show up at my hairdresser's EVERY Wednesday to have their hair elaborately curled and put up. I show up every 8 weeks to have my grey covered up . . . it came in in patches instead of a neat racing stripe like my grandmother's . . . but the same ladies are always there.
Well, okay, I guess...but leave Frango Mints alone.
I used to LOVE shopping at Field's! I could always find nice, classy, *classic* styles there. I worked right near the First National bank, and loved to shop in the area.
Of course, I'm a rural redneck mama now, but my little girls have some fun dress-up clothing! LOL
Once in a while, I do miss the city.
They've already touched your Frangos about 5(?) years ago when they moved production out of the State Street store to some candy maker in Ohio.
Sure hate to hear that! Haven't had any in years, but it figures....somebody's always fixin' stuff that's not broken.
IMO, this is a bad move!
Sometimes I miss the Twin Cities. We lived in Scott County 16 years(and raised a great Golden Retriever, Prior Lake Jake). We were there when the old stadium was demolished to make way for the Mall.
Those are great memories; too bad the franchise has been taken over by bean counters.

They announced here in Chicago that the production of Frango Mints will be moved back to Chicago.
Now that's something to celebrate...need to order some... thanks!
It has already been don to Wanamaker's. Meet me at the Eagle!
You mean the Magnificent Mile?
