My friend in Luling, LA (30 miles from downtown NO) could send and receive text messages after Katrina but phone calls were a no go. It was very helpful.

Text messaging will work?I read on one of the Katrina threads that yes, when the regular cells went down, people were text messaging and it DID work. Go feeger.
