I have several small shortwave, am, fm radios. They come in handy when we lose power. The tv station weathermen broadcast on local stations when we have bad weather. The radio I like the best was also the least expensive and it was made by Grundig.

Yes, I bought one at amazon.com, but I spent $139 on a rather deluxe tv.

Wow. That's a long way. We're right on the coast, about ten miles from the Bay. When Carla hit here she washed away ENTIRE HERDS OF CATTLE. They never found them. That amazes me. I know multiple people who tell that story.

GOOD for you, and GOOD to know, thanks. I will never be without battery powered radios, fans, or a tv ever again.

How much do those battery-operated TV's cost?

I got my husband one several years ago at Dollar General - it was $15 or $20. It has a regular electric plug, takes 4 "d" batteries, or can run on the car battery with a cigarette lighter plug.

Thanks for the suggestion and the information! Our power outages come from tornadoes, heavy wind, and ice on the lines in winter. This would be a good thing to have. I will start looking tomorrow. Thanks again!

I like your post number 68, very well said - you are right in remarking how society has changed. We gave our government great power in place of our freedom, now we rely on that power instead of on ourselves.

Try to stay off of I-35 though....that highway is awful even on a weekday with NO hurricane...

I-45 isn't bad, though. Probably crowded this week, but a good drive.

I-45 will be a parking lot. I-35 might be bad, but it will be a WHOLE LOT BETTER than I-45, especially if that stretch around Corsicana is still under construction. Take I-10 west to Columbus, then head to Austin. North to Dallas-Fort Worth.

You will learn to *look* for hurricane stuff.......LOL.

And don't expect to SHARE a TV or radio with the hubby. It virtually NEVER works out; give him his own.
