(Hit post too early). MSM was hysterically telling everyone about the "shortage" to bash Bush during the election cycle. After the election ... no shortage.

Thanks to Bush creating a shortage of the flu vaccine last year, I'm a year behind in getting my shot. Oh no! Oh no!

I clearly recall that media promoted fiasco. After they panicked everyone and the 'shortage' was over I did not even bother getting the flu shot, since I had already gotten the some kind flu very early in the season.

This Bird Flu problem is a whole different deal - if or when it makes it over here we have a problem.

Chief Jay Strongbow. I saw him wrestle and he shall always remain one of the all time greats.

Sounds like the “tens of thousands of dead in New Orleans”.

That book kept me awake at night - I first read it during a flu season.

Are you implying some of these scientists and microbiologists were bumped off? The list indicates far too may "Accidents" & "Suicides".

Right now that would be the impression. However let's hope it remains that way all during this coming winter.

I work for a large fixed income hedge fund, and interestingly enough, just today I received the following rather alarming sounding conference invitation. Although its a bit afield of my regular business concerns, I might go just to check things out. (I blanked out names and numbers).

All -- Deutsche Bank's Global Business Continuity Group is sponsoring a very interesting conference on the threat of Avian flu entitled: "Bulls, Bears, and Birds: Preparing the Financial Industry for a Pandemic."

I know this sounds like a morbid topic but it's an increasingly scary scenario -- as ABC News reported the other night, when - not "if" - the flu jumps from being simply an animal flu and becomes a "humanized" flu, we could see a billion (yes, billion) fatalities globally. The Council on Foreign Relations, in their highly respected journal "Foreign Affairs" devoted an entire issue to the topic.

Speakers will include White House experts, a number of health care specialists, former high-ranking CIA officials, etc.

Agenda is attached. The symposium will take place in the Deutsche Bank auditorium at 60 Wall Street on Friday, September 23rd.

If you or your clients would like to attend, please contact XXXXXXXXXX at XXX-XXX-XXXX, or xxxxxx@db.com.

Best,
XXXX

Oy vay, Houston we have a problem.

I was aware "Foreign Affairs" devoted, I believe, their most recent issue to the subject in question.

If the nation's top financial managers & other political insiders are this concerned about the potentials effecting the U.S. & the entire globe everything presented at the Avian Influenza Symposium will be worth noting.

If you can be there please send a FR mail sometime over the weekend with your thoughts.

Thanks for this heads up!

I'm thinking that its a hell of a time to be in short supply of the very people who might come up with a vaccine...

Excellent point.

Swiss based Roche has had 'Tamiflu' since around 1999, yet Washington is only just awakening to the potential of a serious problem looming on the horizon.
