AFTER ACTION REPORT: RALLY FOR THE TROOPS IN WILLIAMSBURG VA - CINDY'S DITCH TOUR GETS FREEPED
09-19-05 | paltz

Posted on 09/19/2005 8:56:32 PM PDT by Flora McDonald

All of us arrived at Crim Dell Meadow and the caravan of aging hippie throwbacks had already setup shop. According to Flora McDonald she had spoken to William and Mary previously about our counter protest. She was reassured we would be seen by both students and anti-war protesters. We were shocked to learn that the school had gone back on its word and sent us a football field or so away from the antiwar protest. Worse than that, the area had little foot traffic and shade (something the cindy sheehan’s group did have).

So I walked over to the college admin guy who allowed the groups to come on campus. He fed me the line that its school policy that groups have their right to free speech without being disrupted. I went on and said that nothing was being disrupted we just want the same foot traffic that they were getting. Standing there with U.S. flags and supporting our troops with our support the troop signs should not cause some disruption. We continued going on back and forth until he tried to pull authority and ask if I was a student. With a big smile on my face…I said “no”. I told him his new name was “bureaucratic college administrator”

So, while we ended up in the middle of bumble, with signs and flags, a bunch of CR’s and freepers went to the streets of Williamsburg with our stuff. We got a lot of thumbs up and honks. The school sent police cruisers to kick us off the street island we were standing on. So we stood on the sidewalk with our signs.

An oldish couple came up and used the same old tired line of “why don’t you go and serve if you’re for the war” My reply was simply “ Because the troops need to see groups of people like us on college campuses who support what they are doing not just Zarquai supporting groups like yours that bring down morale”. This went on for a while until they told me I’d be supporting Hitler if he were alive today. I nearly started laughing. Then they said I represented the worst of America. So I told them that coming from them that’s compliment. After they couldn’t give any alternative policy except saying the current one is a bad one, they walked away.

We met up with the other freepers at Crim Dell Meadow on campus.

Here are my responses:

“why don’t you go and serve if you’re for the war”

I would love to, but since I am a vet. of the first gulf war and I am too old to go, I'm not allowed. Since you are most likely pro-abortion why don't you go have one?

"do you have a family member over there?"

Yes, actually I do. He is currently flying there for the Army and I would love to be able to be there with him helping.

"what noble cause?"

Freeing the Iraqi people from a dictator who murdered & robbed them for 2 decades. Killing the terrorists who are bent on destroying our nation & our way of life. That would be the noble cause you scum sucking, bottom feeders.

Sisku Hanne did an awesome SOLO FREEP of the Ditch Tour in PA.

She sent me the graphic for this sign which I love: IF YOU ARE FREE TO PROTEST, THANK A SOLDIER.

(The gentleman in the picture below is retired military and gave an impromptu and inspirational speech.)

I wonder if anybody got a picture of A., the student who brought us sodas and a Patriot CD not to mention some great conversation?

He was with us for the duration and I would love to post a picture of him.

I love your responses!

Thank you for your service to our country. Please convey my profound appreciation and gratitude to your wonderful son.

Will you be joining us in DC this week-end? We sure could use you!

Last photo in post #6 - second from the left. Andrew was his name, IIRC. Anyone??

He was with us for the duration and I would love to post a picture of him.

Yes. He did a great job discussing the issues with the two guys I mentioned earlier. He comes from a long line of Military personnel. His dad served during Desert Storm.

"The Ditch Tour Whine & Wheeze Fest"

That's IT! The crowd from their protest
group?

THAT's their bus?

I'm laughing so hard I can barely hit
the right keys.

My response: I would love to go. But the military isn't taking mid-40's fat guys with bad knees.

Yea, I know.
I had my hopes up when DoD announced they were taking retirees back in – then they qualified it by saying we would have to pass a physical and a PT test.
Back in Viet Nam we had a “new” crewman report aboard. He was over 50 y.o., needed a cane to walk, and had a medical profile not allowing him to be around loud noises or weapons (!). He was not allowed to set, stand or walk for prolonged periods. He had made the Normandy landing, was hit and medically retired.
He was recalled for Korea, made the Inchon landing, was hit and medically retired. He was called back for Viet Nam. On his first trip with us into Hue he was hit and again medically retired.
I figured if he could do so could I. Oh well …

Justanobody -

I don;t have a son in Iraq. I have a cousin over there. I didn't mean to mislead anyone. Perhaps I should correct my post.

It was an honor to serve in the U.S. Army. I am humbled by the fact that I got to wear the uniform.

I am in Southern Illinois & I am afraid I can't make it to DC for the weekend. However, you have my prayers & support. I will also give you a warning - Cindy is past due for a meltdown. It is going to be ugly, so please be careful.

They're not taking any late 40 guys either...I offered to bring my own weapon (A/R15), provide my own ammo and buy my own uniform. Even wrote the President (probably put me on a 'nut list'). BTW, my knees are fine! ;)

If the President ever comes near your area, I expect your neighbors will be getting visits from those people with the dark glasses and hearing aids.

Last time the Prez was in Louisville, I did notice alot of black 'choppers' flying around my house! They did seem to take notice of the sand bags on my roof! hahahah

Seriously, I can still knock a squirrel out of a tree at 100 yards. Cripes, I can at least guard an airport or something. I've had plenty of management/leadership experience. Just no frickin' desk job! I want on the line!

When they ask "why don't you go and serve if you're for the war?"

I answer: "Huh? ...and leave you guys behind to run the country/ defend the homeland? You'd like that wouldn't you?"

Sorry, Bob, no can do. I'm still trying to see if I can line up a sitter so I can make it Friday evening. (The weekend I'm good for!) As of now I'm a "maybe not" in the Friday attendance category.

I figured that at the very least I could step in at the Transportation School and let some able bodied soldier head over, but … well, guess they just don’t need us.
