My point is that the Irish have been living with priests a lot longer than we have. They happily deal with them at mass and in grade school and in university, but they don't send their kids for overnighters as the rectory as so many American families seem to have done. It is just asking for trouble.
I went to a Catholic boarding school in high school. We all knew which priests to steer clear of and which ones genuinely wanted to help us. But we were ages 14 to 18.

Oh Boy! Now the Catholic Church won't get any United Fund donations...just like the Boy Scouts of America. I bet the ACLU is busy, busy, busy tonight.

Sounds like you know quite a bit about the subject!
They are gay. If they weren't GAY there would be an equal number of abuse cases against your girls also, wouldn't you think?

Pope Benedict says that homosexual men should not be admitted to seminaries even if they are celibate, because their condition suggests a serious personality disorder that detracts from their ability to serve as ministers!!!Thank GOD for B-16...

I mean let's cut to the chase here: Priests are expected to give up sexuality en toto, so what's the significance here?
I suspect it's to support the Church's belief/teaching that homosexuality is a sin and hence a priest who is by definition in violoation of this cannot be ordained. I'm not saying I fully understand, but this is my guess.

Put it this way: If one is a pedophile, does it matter how they lust after 4 year olds as long as they don't act on it? No, it doesn't matter. So long as it's never acted upon, I absolutely do not care what goes on behind closed eyes. Action is the true dividing line here. Where I come from a man who stuggles with his dark side, overcomes, and never acts upon his desires is a man of character.

Why would anyone leave their kids with a Priest or any other man for an overnight visit? Waht's that' all about? We had great Priests but no kids ever spent the night with them. When did all this come about? Where in the hell are the parents. Our kids slept at home in their OWN BEDS!!!

I'm not saying I fully understand, but this is my guess. That's my point. We're not talking about men who'll be practicing homosexuality, but men who'll be practicing celibacy. Celibacy, last time I checked was not a sin. If the priest is celibate, he's not committing the sin of homosexuality.

Priest take either a vow of chastity or celibacy. Celibacy means vowing not to marry which in turn means chastity. Usually religious orders have vows of chastity and diocesan priest take a vow of celibacy.
