Please ping and bump and ESPECIALLY, please email outside of FR to others who need this information. We need to reclaim our schools and stand together as conservatives of all faiths, One Nation, Under God.
This has been going on for years. The best part about THIS year, is that, as President of the school's Christian group, MY SON is organizing it for his high school
Excellent idea, it could be used in past tense, as "why were you out there?"
It may or may not be 'legal' during school hours, before or after school apparently is OK, so this is before school begins.
As long as this is student/parent-organized, I think it's legally impregnable--and also much more effective than any "offical" ceremony at demonstrating true patriotism and/or devotion to God.
Why on this particular day? And is this supposed to be non-students and parents who don't have students at the public school who are going to show up?
Prayers at the flagpole have been going on in most schools for years.
What hasn't been going on is non-students and adults who don't have students at a school showing up on campus. That's pretty much a no-no at all the public schools I know about.
From this story, it sounds like a bunch of home-school kids and their parents are going to show up at a public school and insist on praying at the flagpole. Bad idea.
There's a good reason to keep people who aren't students or parents of students off our public school campuses. It's the law in most places.
I volunteer at schools to do sessions on my area of expertise. I have to get a background check, a TB test, and have a specific class and time before I'm allowed on campus.
What the heck? The students at the schools are already praying around the flagpole. I assume the home-school kids are praying wherever they want. This just doesn't make sense to me.
wrong no one can stop you from expressing your beliefs even during school hours. the ACLU hasnt taken that from us yet
What are the schools going to do? Arrest the students for saying the Pledge & reciting prayers?
What part of the U.S. Constitution gives them the right for THAT?
Contact an attorney. That principal can't do that. The courts have made it clear that students may gather and pray around the flagpole.
A letter from an attorney should do the trick. If not, further steps can be taken. The new principal at your school simply hasn't gotten the word.
Kids can pray at the flag. It's their right to do so, and every case has been won in court. The principal will back down.
Now, non-students and outsiders should not be allowed on campus for this activity. That's a danger we can all recognize. Even those who pray have been known to be abusers of young people.
We do this every Friday at our school.
I didn't realize this till last week. My 15 year old homeschooled daughter organized a See you at the pole rally last year.
By herself...at my flagpole in my front yard.
"Then the new principle approached the crowd and told the group to break it up, that he would not support such activities on school campus as it might offend someone."
Contact Pacific Justice on this one, right away. That is exactly the kinds of cases they handle, usually with just a nice, firm letter that corrects any misunderstanding that may exist on the part of the school staff or school board.
I'm probably going to forget about it until its too late unless i see some people around the flagpole that morning, but does anyone know what time this is usually at?
No surprise here...
