LINCOLN (AP) - ABC Sports' play-by-play man Brent Musburger was cited by Lincoln police Saturday evening for having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and drinking from it, a police captain said Sunday.
Capt. Allen Soukup said Musburger was cited at 6:10 p.m. Saturday on a public street just west of Memorial Stadium. Musburger was a passenger in the car and was drinking a beer, Soukup said.
Musburger, 66, had just finished broadcasting the Huskers' game against the University of Pittsburgh.
He was one of several people who were cited for similar alcohol offenses Saturday, Soukup said.
The fine, if Musburger chooses not to fight the citation, is $144, the captain said.
Efforts to reach Musburger through ABC Sports headquarters in New York were unsuccessful.
An ABC Sports spokesman did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
That could explain ABC's news division's actions. Alcohol related 'accidents.'
These laws really bother me. If you're not "impaired" according to the breathalyzer, why would it matter if you're drinking beer? What's the difference between drinking a beer in the car, and drinking in a restaurant, if your BAC is the same?
Isn't this where they had that sniper shooting cars? Good thing these cops are keeping us safe from real crime!
how this clown has managed to stay in sports all these years is a mystery to me...
he has to be the ABSOLUTE WORST sports broadcaster in television history! LMAO
gad, I remember him calling the Lakers games for one of the networks in the 80's and I had to hit the mute button
Another worthless POS is that clown who used to do the news in L.A. thats on HBO doing boxing... forget his name, thankfully LOL Jim Lampley I think...yea that's it
GAD! he's another joke!
The guy was a passenger, not a driver. Non-impairment requirement applies to drivers, not to passengers.
If you're not driving -- and Brett was not -- why should anyone give a rat's asskme if he's drinking a beer or a keg in the car or is totally plastered.
I've never heard of such a law.
Yeah, this is an outrage....give him the guillotine.
One is considered drinking in public and the other isn't.
I never could stand that nasal-toned panty-waist.
You obviously don't remember Fred Williamson or Dennis Miller.
The Brent Musberger Drinking Game is too complicated (although that's probably the beauty of it). "Beer Hunter" is much simpler: http://www.webtender.com/handbook/games/beerhunter.game
In Utah, you can not have a been "in the vicinity" of an automobile.
That means, sitting on the hood, or while washing the car, or while talking to a passenger.
It's too avoid the "passing the beer to the passenger" possibility.
been=beer (memo to self, when it says preview and edit, really do that) LOL
"Open container" (opened beer) laws are commonplace. Texas is about the only state where it is not against the law...
Fred Williamson?
he musta been bad...never heard of him. LOL
and Dennis Miller...well he was more of a sports "commentator"
he didn't listen to his father's advice "stick to what you know, Dennis...COMEDY!" LOL
