Cleveland,Ohio (AHN) - The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.
J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex,Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame located in Cleveland.
This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.
Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.
Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.
Yeah, "Because" was unusually melodic for the DC5, katy. They did lots of cover songs, too -- "I Like It Like That" and "Over And Over" are two that spring to mind. Another one they had that I liked was "Everybody Knows." Late in their run, another hit was "Try Too Hard" that was pretty good. I remember going to see them in the film "Having A Wild Weekend." Zero plot, but they sang some good songs.
The song is "piss on the wall."
Wrong band..I had too much to dream last night..Who did Psychotic Reaction?
"Freebird" certainly was popular during the war in Nam.
Hail to the Electric Prunes!! "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night" and "Get Me To The World On Time" were both classics. I actually saw them perform these on "The Mike Douglas Show," and Mike tried to sing along. He never understood his limitations.
"Psychotic Reaction" was by San Jose-based Count Five. Great song -- I still have my album!!
This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, "Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.

The RRHOF is a farce. While I have very little use for Genesis/Phil Collins, Def Leppard, or Duran Duran, they all had an impact on the Rock Music scene that can't be disputed
Rush, Van Halen, ELO, Yes, and Deep Purple are all very serious musicians. (Full Disclosure-Deep Purple Fanatic)
Obviously the RRHOF can't be bothered with people that can actually read music.
"I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night"
Classic indeed
Of course, you can't really tell if the word is "dream" or "drink"!
NYA -- The Rivingtons did "Papa Ooh Mow Mow" a few years before The Trashmen did "Surfin' Bird." The Trashmen largely lifted the Rivingtons song and added a few barfs and gurgles.
DOOHH!!??
Forgot to include Sabbath in the serious musician category I know the Ozzy bashers will hate that, but Tony Iommi is unbelievable
Ummmm ... Lynryd Skynyrd? OH! I forgot, they weren't pc enough enough ...
Thanks for jogging my memory.
Upcoming 2005 performances;
09/24/2005 -- Columbia -- TN -- Downtown Merchants Association
LOL!
This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath (yes), Lynyd Skynyrd (yes) gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols (barf) and the Stooges (if it's Moe, Larry, and Curley) all of which are on try number five.
Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.
An "Aye" vote on everyone on the last list but, Genesis, ELO, Rush, who were alright, but this IS the HOF.
Duran Duran's nomination is a joke, right?
Hmm, they may have gone the way of The Seeds -- "One great band, two great chords" was their motto. "You're Pushin' Too Hard."
Yep, the same group of a-holes who messed up the music industry in the first place.
