Cleveland,Ohio (AHN) - The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.

J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex,Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame located in Cleveland.

This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.

Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.

Thanks, right back at you. I had a great time accessing the recesses of an old gray matter.

The Syndicate Of Sound (best known for the non-singing song "Little Girl.")

Yeah, not too many oldie goldie bands do that song cuz I guess it's too hard to just non-sing. But I still like the song...it takes me back in time to the 1960's.

No Megadeth? Try to find more technically precise and cleanly played speed or thrash metal than what can be found on the "Rust In Peace" cd. Not gonna happen.

WTF... Miles Davis?!? Now why in the *heck* would the "Picasso of Jazz" even be considered for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?!?

There is a category (I'm not sure exactly what it's called) in the HOF for non-rock musicians who have influenced rock. (It has a lot of country and blues musicians in it.) I assume Miles is being nominated in that category. Which makes sense, because the whole jazz-rock fusion movement of the 1970s (Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, etc.) started with his In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew albums.

It was a staple of high school rock bands, like "Gloria" and "Louie Louie." Another one-hit group from around that same time was the Casinos, from Cincy. Their song was "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye."

Too bad Megadeth fell apart after that record. Holy Wars/Punishment Due, Hangar 18...the entire album is flawless.

Then MTV got ahold of Mustaine and it was curtains.

I did go to Gigantour this summer...Dream Theater and Dillenger Escape Plan owned the night. Megadeth played wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too late after 6.5 hrs of music, and the place was half empty by the time they took the stage around 11:45 PM.

John Mellencamp's drummer, Dane Clark, is an acquaintance of mine. I've known him for probably twenty years.

I have always enjoyed Mellencamp's music, though he has become a flaming lib in the last few years.

We have a political talk show host named Jay Severin, who will talk music every so often especially his fondness for certain guitarists like Johnny Winter. Anyway, he's mentioned that he is friends with Billy Squier (Mass. bred) and Squier is an avid supporter of EVH's work but has yet to convince Severin.

I've seen them 8 times, met them twice. Last time I saw them was the tour before this last one. They still tear it up live. Amazing stuff.
