Cleveland,Ohio (AHN) - The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.
J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex,Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame located in Cleveland.
This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.
Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.
Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.
Yes he did. Though I liked the Freeze Frame album, and it was just a case of the band going with what was popular at the time, I really love the music they did in the 70's.
Remember the daytime show "Where The Action Is?" One of Dick Clark's ideas. Some of the regulars I remember were Paul Revere and the Raiders, Linda Scott, Steve Alaimo and Keith.
Shindig ? Never missed it ! Check out this homepage for Ian Whitcomb . Thanks Speedy , I'm gonna order the new DVD . Must support guys like Ian !
Thanks. Maybe it was another show that had "Go Go" in its title.
" Paul Revere and the Raiders "
Had many of their albums . Just Like Me , Kicks , Hungry , Great Airplane Strike ...Speedy , you got me in a nostalgiac frame of mind man !
Faking it on a double necked? You have a great memory! And Peter Asher went on to produce/manage Linda ..... who?
I loved the Yardbirds too. Wasn't it their lead singer Keith Relf who was electrocuted? Also, at the end of their run, they had a minor hit that sounded nothing like their other work called "Ha Ha Said The Clown." Having A Rave Up -- wonderful album. Also The Kinks in those days were outstanding. Not just the major hits like "All Day and All Night" or "You Really Got Me Going," but lesser ones like "Dedicated Follower Of Fashion" and "Til The End Of The Day."
Actually, Hinduism is in essence monotheistic - but that's a long, long discussion.
I used to listen to that after having taken (ahem) often multiple doses of LSD. It was very interesting that way.
And of course his sister Jane was Paul's heart throb for awhile. "Shindig" usually had better acts than "Hullaballo," but "Hullaballoo" had more wild-looking dancers -- I still remember the lead dancer in her cage, Lada Edmund Jr. -- way too advanced for a 14-year old to be admiring!!
Having A Rave Up -- wonderful album.
Eric Clapton on the live side
Linda Ronstadt and Jane Asher was long banged model in British fashion. Perhaps her sister too
Actually, Hinduism is in essence monotheistic....
Brahma? You need say more. I will remember that when I see more about Hinduism
Paul Revere and the Raiders were somewhat under-rated because of the goofy outfits and persona, but they made good driving garage rock. How I loved that "Spirit Of '67" album -- and other good songs from them were "Good Thing" and "I Had A Dream" and "Steppin' Out" -- yeah, I'm dripping in nostalgia myself. Reaching for that radio dial -- hoping to hear some ? and the Mysterians!!
Isn't everyone ?
I think the Amboy Dukes would have worked with that too, lj.
Mitch Mitchel ..Baker ..Carl Palmer ...Now ya talking ..
Definitely OT - but having been a student of the Vedic scriptures for many years, I can attest that the foundation is definitely monotheistic. Not all followers of Hinduism understand their own scriptures very deeply.
