Van's stuff is always good. I have a dozen of his CDs, including Them.

I can only remember the interview I watched on TV back in the early 80's that debated the "wall" in the song.
I never related the song to the memorial wall untill I saw that.
For those of us old enough to remember the late 70's, early 80's, lots of people protested the wall being built because they didn't like the war.

Hah!! No, not the marching band, our local five-guys-with-guitars, drums and amps band. And yes, I have heard that "Louie Louie" marching band thing on Rhino records. I think that is where the kazoo version also made its debut. Remember The Kingsmen's follow up to "Louie Louie" was "Money" and then "Valley Of The Jolly Green Giant." Paul Revere and the Raiders had a competing Pacific NW version of "Louie" that didn't make it as far.

Dave Clark 5 is an excellent choice. It is hard to find their CDs these days. Dave Clark is now a record executive who controls all their material.
OK, people don't laugh but how come Pat Boone has never been nominated ? I interviewed him a couple of years ago and he would really like to see it happen. Do you think it's because of his politics or his music that they haven't nominated him ?

Johnny Rivers had tons of hits, starting with covers of "Memphis" and "Maybelline."

That nutcase Phil Spector is a member of the Hall of Fame. I was there in 1989 when he got inducted.... he was drunk as a skunk.

J.Geils, Blondie, and Miles should be the ONLY ones from that group in there. The bands that have been nominated before, should ALL be there. The bands never nominated, should ALL be there.
That's my opinion.......I welcome yours.

Rush, Van Halen, ELO, Yes, and Deep Purple are all very serious musicians. (Full Disclosure-Deep Purple Fanatic) I would bet Blackmore doesn't give a rat's ass about the RRHOF.

Miles Davis? - Rock n' Roll??
Rock and Roll was a phenomenon which started about 1956 and lasted less than 50 years. It's gone, it's dead, it's over - and while it could be argued what was the very last true group and what year did it die, there's no question that what's out there now bears as much resemblance to the original sound as Bach does to the Beachboys.
I'll probably be scorned by those fanatics out there who follow this stuff closely, but the last groups that I ever heard that had a close link to the Rock and Roll sound was about the time of Huey Lewis and the News and Van Halen - whenever that was.
Personally, I don't see much future for a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annual Award because each year they pick from a steadily diminishing list of what must eventually be comprised of only one hit wonder performers.
To: Salo
A good 25% of the RRRHOF is there only because of some personal relationship with sclerotic hippie queen Jann Wenner; 1979 Sausalito cokehead pals, lawn party neighbors from East Hampton.
Ever wonder what Billy Joel, Paul Simon, and Jackson Browne are doing in a "Rock and Roll" HOF? Payback for a few lines of Peruvian at the US Festival, or for listening raptly to Jann's stories at his last Montauk croquet get-together.
Prediction: 2009 RRHOF inductee Ricky Martin.

I have the first two albums on the Tetragrammaton label.
Saw them live at the Boathouse in Hampton. In 1969.

I am in the presence of a genius LOL.
No genius here, just a long time Van fan. Actually it was "Them" that led to my transition from "Blues and R&B" to R&R. Before 'Them', I was listening to Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Bo Didley, and others.
BTW, Road Hog? I admit I do not know that one.
