. FEMA needs reform (taken out of HS 'like it was under me')

Was there a homeland security under Clinton? I don't remember that.

Might be an NPR online poll that I participated in.

What a ludicrous question. Needless to say, I voted NO.

Don't you remember that right after bubba was elected all the news stations hired former Bush administration officials so they could critique the clinton agenda?

I disagree Bush does not blindly follow poll numbers he does what he feels is best for his people and country if this is the net result then that is great but to level that at him I feel is unfair he is a man of integrity and faith.

Nagin is ready for the Rubber room in Houston.

Don't count on it; the NAACP will probably give him some type of excellency award before all this is over. Same with Blanco with the NOW gang.

If there is one theme to Bush's idea of making America's economy flourish...for ALL Americans, is his "ownership society" theme..

He has been speaking of that since he was first running for POTUS...and when you bring it down to a few square blocks in a major city in America, like NO>..IMHO..it is the ONLY truly achievable change that COULD work....W/O major taxpayer money involved...

You notice that though he mentioned free land via a lottery, the HOME has be tbe bought by the person that "wins" the lottery....in any neighborhood, if you have homeOWNERS, and not renters...the neighborhood is much, much better in dozens of ways, not just financial, either.

President Reagan's optimism and a very supporting spouse and his religious faith and belief in America are the reasons that he was a great President, and why so many Americans still love him. People that have optimism and a good outlook on life, a faith in their creator and plans for the future are the ones that survive through one crisis after another, and live the longest. With all the hate the media spews, they do not realize that the non believers will not survive constant negativity because they do not have a faith that will sustain them through all the harshness.

Funny how no one points out that FEMA to DHS was one of the brainstorms of the Dem controlled Senate after 9-11. Guess they are just hoping no one pays any attention to Hillary's role in getting FEMA moved there in the 1st place. Funny how all the Fed dollars the Dems demanded get shoveled off to local "1st Responders" after 9-11 was spent is not be scrutinies by our so called "objective" media. Just what DID all those 1st Responder dollars Hillary, Durbin, Kerry, Kenndy et al demand we spend on "Homeland Security" BUY the American Taxpayer? How quickly our Dinosaur Media chooses to forget who ran the Senate from May 2001 to Jan 2003.

IMHO, Honore is akin to Baghdad Bob

First he insisted there was NO sniping.

Then he attacked a reporter for asking why the guard didn't arrive sooner.

Honore turns to the reporter and asks him how many people HE saved.

The reporter was not bullied. He said, it is not our job to be saving people, it's YOUR job.

End of conversation.

Honore is full of it.

Just about every public person from Louisiana seems to be smoking stuff.

Vitter, Jindal, and the dems all on the same page. They did nothing wrong, it's all the government's fault.

This does not always work as planned. We have had people in our neighborhood here because of getting a house free from the government. Cops were there all the time and finally they sold and moved, taking what money they could get out of it with them. We had drug and theft problems, and various neighbors were up at arms with fear of what might happen next. My only point being, a free house sounds good but only if the people are responsible home owners.

Every President for the last 50 years has taken internal polls and Bush is no different. Don't kid yourself. When Bush says he doesn't follow the polls, that maybe true. He doesn't watch TV or read newspapers either. That doesn't mean his political and policy advisors don't keep a close eye on all the polls. Rove knows that polling is critical to understanding the political mood of the nation and polling does influence decisions in the White House and everywhere throughout WashDC. I agree. Bush is a man of integrity and faith, but he is also a politician and a real good one too.

I disagree with you---

I don't think that Pres. Bush personally cares a whit about polls and his "numbers"....

but, what I think I do see...is that he sees a chance to make lemonade out of lemons...and that means to take a city with the normal poor areas of town...and trying to change them into a business zone, with business owned by people that will live in the homes (owned by them), that used to be govt. housing run by slum lords...

WHY NOT? Rather than dismissing black people, he is giving them a new chance...a creative, forward looking chance to make real choices..

If I were Bush...I would engage a lot of the people that are in the Urban League...he has spoken before them before..and they are one group that has seemed to "get it"..when he talks about the need to get rid of "low expectations" in the poor sections of towns...and give them something to strive for, in an "ownership society".

Wow is that great info, Blumenthal will be another nail in the mSM coffin any day now. This info needs to be given to Rush, Hannity, Levin,Snow, and all the big names in Conservative Broadcasting. It never ceases to truly amaze me how Freepers and other bloggers can take the wind right out of the media and practically sink their boats by whirlwind investigative work that is right there to be plucked out and reported ob, but the MSM covers it all up because it does not fit their DNC lefty agenda.

Very well put the media are anti religion and I have said it on other threads but I will repeat it here the absolute hatred of GWB is because of his religious belief his living faith.

This is a battle of good and evil and IMHO the prince of this world has blinded so many people that they cannot understand GWB whether it be his policies or the man himself.

This is more than left against right this is good versus evil.

Flame me if you wish call me a religious nut if you like but the more I look at it I can find no other reason for the blind hatred.

Good politics. Bad policy.

Nonsense. Funny post coming from a "Reagan man". The same Reagan that signed 2 tax increases and an illegal immigration amnesty. The idea that the Fed Govt could tell the states "you handle the clean up" represents either a mind boggling political naivety or a sheer unwillingness to deal with political reality on the part of the Cast Iron Conservatives. The Fed Govt IS going to have a role in the recovery. It ALWAYS does. It certainly is in the worst natural disaster in American History. The costs to the Fed budget in long term care of evacuees and lost revenues makes it essential that we do something to get these people off the books and back to work as sooon as possible. What the Cast Iron Conservatives seem to be screaming is the nonsense that the Feds do NOTHING. That is NOT politically viable. So the end result is once again the Cast Iron Conservatives just abandoned this segment of society to the Hysteric Left. What Bush is doing is making the best of a bad deal and trying to direct then recovery effort into Conservative ideas like Enterprise Zones, private home ownership and relaxation of Govt regulations. "Reagan's man" instead of just screaming your opinions over and over and over in every thread, go to Rush's website and see what HE has to say about it. Frankly I am sick of wasting time trying to pry open welded shut minds.

Source for this accusation? Frankly I grow tired of your habit of stating your own feelings as facts. Please provide sources to back up your accusations from now on.

That was a very informative post, so it was not Congress that kept that plan from going forward it was Slick willie, per William Jefferson democrat Louisiana.

That Harvey Canal floodgate project was/is under construction.

http://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/harvey_photopage.htm
http://louisiana.construction.com/projects/TopProjects2005.pdf

The project was covered in a Congressional committee report.

West Bank Hurricane Protection Levee

Location--West Bank of Mississippi River in the vicinity of New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana (East of Harvey Canal).

Purpose--Hurricane protection.

Problem--Existing protection project does not provide standard hurricane and storm protection to residents and businesses on the west bank of the Mississippi River in portions of Jefferson, Orleans, and Plaquemines Parishes, which lie, east of Harvey Canal.

Recommended Plan--Construction of a navigable floodgate in the Harvey Canal near Lapalco Boulevard. In addition, a navigation buy-pass will be constructed to temporarily accommodate Harvey Canal traffic while the floodgate is under construction. Levees and floodwalls will also be constructed, and environmental mitigation of bottomland hardwood and undrained cypress swamp loss will occur.

Environmental Impact Statement--Final statement filed with the EPA on September 20, 1994.

Project Costs--Total $217,000,000. First Federal $141,400,000; first non-Federal $75,600,000.

Benefit/Cost Ratio--4.0 to 1 at a discount rate of 7 3/4 percent.

SENATE Report 104-170 - NOVEMBER 9, 1995
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/cpquery/T?&report=sr170&dbname=cp104&

So, the Harvey Canal floodgate and levee system project was approved at some point, and was considered (at least by the Senate) in 1995.

It should have had a thread Friday night. I did not actually witness this, it is second hand info to me even though it has been verified by other freepers. I think that someone maybe tivo'd it and they can review their Tivo, and maybe get the transcript from the Show. I do not have the capabilities on my equipment to do this.
