New Orleans rescue effort thwarted
My name is Jason Robideaux, I am an attorney from Lafayette Louisiana and have dealt with all of the various law enforcement agencies in Louisiana during the past 18 years. . . . I regretfully have a story to share that will shake your head in disbelief about the La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries.
A group of approximately 1,000 citizens pulling 500 boats left the Acadiana Mall in Lafayette this morning (Weds.) and headed to New Orleans with a police escort from the Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Department. The flotillia of trucks pulling boats stretched over five miles. This citizen rescue group was organized by La. State Senator, Gautreaux from Vermilion Parish. . . .
The State Police waved the flotillia of trucks/boats through the barricades in LaPlace and we sped into New Orleans via I-10 until past the airport and near the Clearview exit. At that time we were stopped by agents of the La. Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries. A young DWF agent strolled through the boats and told approximately half of the citizens that their boats were too large because the water had dropped during the night and that they should turn around and go home. . . .
The turf-marking by some minor state agency should never take priority over the lives of citizens!

You will read the following excerpt, and I underline for your benefit the new text that has been added to Mr. Robideaux's orignal letter:
". . . The State Police waved the flotillia of trucks/boats through the barricades in LaPlace and we sped into New Orleans via I-10 until past the airport and near the Clearview exit. At that time we were stopped by agents of the FEMA controlled La. Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries. . . ."
First of all; it is untrue to say that FEMA controls the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Once Governor Kathleen Blanco declared a state of emergency preceding Hurricane Katrina, the La. DWF came under the control of the Louisiana Department of Homeland Security -- yes, we have our own state version here in Louisiana -- and they took their orders from La. DHS, not FEMA. It has also been made clear that the La. DHS and FEMA were completely at odds in the days following the hurricane, as the Red Cross relief effort that was denied permission to go to New Orleans has made clear.
There is more in the original Robideaux letter that has been altered as well. If you will read near the bottom of its content at the link provided with the submission of this post, you will see that Mr. Robideaux makes further criticisms to attach blame to the La. DWF and not to the federal government, who he never mentions in fact in his original letter. But the DailyKos.com posts their "new" version of the following excerpt to suit their own viewpoint:
". . . Sheriff Lee and Senator Gautreaux - 1000 of Louisiana's citizens responded to the public's pleas for help. They were prevented from helping by Dwight Landreneau's agency, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries which had been taken over by FEMA. When I learned that Charity Hospital has not been evacuated and that no one has been there to attempt a rescue, I became angry.
It was because of this that my friend and I have been trying launch boats both yesterday and today but to no avail. It looks like FINALLY the Governor has just said SCREW FEMA, get those boats in the water and help save my citizens."
There is absolutely NOTHING like this in Mr. Robideaux's letter, which is very hard on the Louisiana state government and does not even mention FEMA once!
And then there is the fact that the poster at DailyKos.com, whose nic is "pelican," posts the letter as his own, using the first person text taken directly from Robideaux's letter. Another instance of dishonesty made evident.
And the most disgusting thing of all is that one leftie website after another has picked up on the lies told in the DailyKos.com posting and are now running it as fact.
Here are a couple of examples:
The MyDD.com Web Site
The Pro-Rev.com Web Site
And there are more, including omega.com, bellaciao.com, and the list goes on.
Does the left even care about the truth? No one really has to answer that for me, I just ask it rhetorically.
And for the record, I am a Louisiana Freeper living in Lafayette.

This needs to be kept on reserve because I'm sure the rewrite will be circulating he NET via liberal leftists right about time of election.
Don't worry lily, I've got this one bookmarked.
The low just keep getting lower. Contemptible!
Wow, I heard this story just the other day (I think on MSNBC) and you are right...they were blaming FEMA. There have been several deliberate attempts by the Democrats to shift blame for what the state did and didn't do...and that includes blaming Fed-FEMA for the Red Cross and Salvation Army delay, when it was the local Homeland Security department.
In fact, one of the Parrish presidents (Aaron Broussard) has been the biggest perpertrator of these "FEMA" lies, which included a story about one of his employees mother drowning on Friday (9/2) because FEMA didn't get to the nursing home on time.
While other threads have detailed this lie, O'reilly even had a fireman on his show last week who went through this nursing home looking for his own mother (either the day of/or day after the hurricane) and found her along with all the others...dead from drowning. This would've been Monday or Tuesday...not the Friday that Broussard claimed.
From the start, both the media and the local democrats have perpetuated some of the most outrageous lies...as well as trying to deliberately confuse the public by misrepresenting the role that FEMA played vs. their own state/local agencies.
Since you're right there, why not contantact Robideaux and make sure which storey is really his? I googled him and in no time found both versions. Perhaps he is unaware that this deciet is taking place in his name.
Didn't mean to put the onus on you. My post was a knee-jerk reaction to reading both versions on google. I figure that with him being a lawyer, a liable suit would be in order as well as great theater.}:^)
Do let me know what he says though, thanks.
