Woman in power is powerless when it comes to meeting men
http://www.mcall.com/ ^ | September 17, 2005 | Amy Alkon

Dear Amy: I'd like to be in a relationship again, but I never even get asked out (unless you count frisky 85-year-olds and drunks at the corner bar). I'm a 32-year-old woman who's happy, sociable, and attractive. (I paid for college by modeling and continue to take care of myself.) I'm second-in-command at a big company, financially secure, and own a beautiful home. How can I meet men in general, and more specifically, men I'd actually want to date?

Deluxe Chopped Liver

Dear Deluxe: To scare away vampires, it takes garlic and crosses, which make ugly bulges in sleek, satin evening bags. Luckily, all you have to do to scare away men is pull out a business card that says ''senior vice president.''

''Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac,'' said Henry Kissinger. Sure it is — unless you're a woman. Research by Stephanie L. Brown and Brian P. Lewis, published in Evolution and Human Behavior (Nov. '04), seems to confirm what many lonely women at the top already know: When guys go for the woman in the boardroom, it isn't the woman running the meeting but the secretary who wheeled in the coffee and croissants before it started.

Sure, plenty of men will scamper up the corporate ladder for a one-night stand. But, according to Brown and Lewis' study, men looking for dates or relationships tend to prefer their subordinates to their colleagues or bosses. The researchers hypothesize that men evolved to want women they can control as a means of guarding against ''parental uncertainty'' — unwittingly raising kids fathered by the Neanderthal next door as their own. Brown and Lewis think this may also explain why men are suckers for ''behavioral expressions of vulnerability'' — women who act like they might not be able to make it across the street

Thank you. Pray for my wife and children. I may have a great privilege--teaching my children not only how to live, but also how to die.

It is one thing for an accusation to be factually based, quite another to be on the receiving end of a baseless charge.

Oh, I think I can go one better.

One of my co-workers (a very hansome bodybuilder type, married to a drop dead gal) was brought up on sexual harrassment charges by the mousey secretary for his department.

Seems the man scratched himself in her presence, and a week later she reported it as an advance.

Of course, the fact he had just spent three hours in a chemical suit didn't have anything to do with it...

I think you've proven you gained much in the wisdom department. If only those on this thread would learn from you.

Not you but what a bunch of arrogant pricks on this thread...

The Internet allows low-status, low-income, low-future beta males the chance to pretend that they have something relevant to say on the subject of dating and relationships...which they then proceed to say in great detail over several dozen posts. Don't let them bother you - it's best just not to respond to them.

Actually, pretend you met them in a bar, and give them the same treatment you would there. ;)

It happens. My former brother-in-law was charged with harassment for a comment between him and some workmates that a female overheard and took it as a personal insult. Now this guy was always being approached by women even when married, so I have a difficult time believing that he needed to chase ANY woman -although My sis would get extremely jealous at the drop of a hat so I suppose the girls thought him a choice cut.

I guess little sister just did not believe that he would NOT make an advance on another woman. It cost him the marriage.

Of course it does. Some of us aren't buying your "spin."

Of course, I still remember The Jackie Gleason Show AND The Honeymooners. Remember that one show on the network that Jackie flat came out and admitted "...it just bombed, SO bad!" And the audience was all laughing so hard remembering that broadcast? How about I Love Lucy and when NBC first began broadcasting "In Living Colour" with the peacock emblem.

Well I've been around FR long enough to make friends and friends who know me and know that everything I'm posting is the absolute truth.

In your case, I'll just consider the source from now on.

Might as well ignore it, mate. Any moment now she is going to switch to personal attacks in leiu of intelligent discourse in an incredibly transparent attempt to attain some manner of moral 'high ground'. Which is what all those who can not muster up a coherent and valid concept fall back on eventually.

At this point I would have not offered to render any assistance. Let them self destruct on their own. Sorry, I regard women in the workplace to be adversarial, with very few exceptions. And that is very few. I document all contacts (if that means anything). I will not render any assistance regarding "personal problems".
This is after I was given some hydraulic data by one other engineer (a woman), and used the data to size some control valves. It turns out the hydraulic model was faulty. I was accused of deliberately selecting the wrong control valves, in spite of the documentation based on her process data and hydraulic model.
Unfortunately feminism has poisoned the business environment with having to watch out for the zampolits with an agenda.

Yar, see; there you are. Huffy, pouting, and unable to accept any position that does not validate her own, so Personal Attacks are now called for.

Oddly enough, I have noticed such a trend Myself in years past. Women in the workplace tend to immediately categorize work difficulties as personal attacks whereas males have no difficulty working as a team. That translates over to personal life as well, unfortunately. I used to go the roommate route many years ago, and I quickly discovered that while most males can share living spaces and understand and compromise for the good of the whole, once you allow females into the mix sooner or later the territorial instinct kicks in and the dissolution begins.
