Woman in power is powerless when it comes to meeting men
http://www.mcall.com/ ^ | September 17, 2005 | Amy Alkon

Dear Amy: I'd like to be in a relationship again, but I never even get asked out (unless you count frisky 85-year-olds and drunks at the corner bar). I'm a 32-year-old woman who's happy, sociable, and attractive. (I paid for college by modeling and continue to take care of myself.) I'm second-in-command at a big company, financially secure, and own a beautiful home. How can I meet men in general, and more specifically, men I'd actually want to date?

Deluxe Chopped Liver

Dear Deluxe: To scare away vampires, it takes garlic and crosses, which make ugly bulges in sleek, satin evening bags. Luckily, all you have to do to scare away men is pull out a business card that says ''senior vice president.''

''Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac,'' said Henry Kissinger. Sure it is — unless you're a woman. Research by Stephanie L. Brown and Brian P. Lewis, published in Evolution and Human Behavior (Nov. '04), seems to confirm what many lonely women at the top already know: When guys go for the woman in the boardroom, it isn't the woman running the meeting but the secretary who wheeled in the coffee and croissants before it started.

Sure, plenty of men will scamper up the corporate ladder for a one-night stand. But, according to Brown and Lewis' study, men looking for dates or relationships tend to prefer their subordinates to their colleagues or bosses. The researchers hypothesize that men evolved to want women they can control as a means of guarding against ''parental uncertainty'' — unwittingly raising kids fathered by the Neanderthal next door as their own. Brown and Lewis think this may also explain why men are suckers for ''behavioral expressions of vulnerability'' — women who act like they might not be able to make it across the street

I enjoyed "Have Gun, Will Travel"

Palladin was the name of the guy in "Have Gun Will Travel" silly!
I like the "Rifleman" also, Chuck Conners

What point? How much sex is worth?

No, what kind of girl she is.

The funny thing is that my wife agreed to marry me when I was unemployed.

That is why I hold people such as you in such high esteem. My fiance knew that she would have to work if she got together with Me as I was not making enough at the time to support us on a single income. However, unlike some she accepted that eventually I would be earning much more and the money was really not important after all. What mattered was that we knew we were meant for each other.

But the name of the show was not Palladin, lol. As I was so gently attempting to remind you. The girls loved him; I just liked the concept of a Hired Gun with a conscience. And old Chuck was a Good Guy as well.

Hey Dude, chill. I've been happily married for over 16 years to a wonderful man. And it was mutually decided, based upon income, both mine and his, to remain childless.

Well I've never had sex outside of marriage. And you all thought you had me figured out.

Lol. Yar, but there is nothing worse than being labled something you are not. It is one thing for an accusation to be factually based, quite another to be on the receiving end of a baseless charge.

Try Nyquil. Much smoother, and at least you won't violate the "freeping while impaired" rule ;^)

And here in America, that is your right. However, I think you denied yourself not only great joy (children are a great joy), and also much wisdom--I believe that getting married and raising a family is the path to much wisdom.

True enough! As for me, I like a bad reputation! To each their own, and good luck! ;-)

Since there are so many jerks in the world, you're going to be accused of nonsense all the time. Best just to see it for what it is and not let it bother you.

My husband has been seriously ill for over 10 years of my marriage. Just for that alone, its best we don't have children.

I sympathize.

A year ago I was diagnosed with a class four brain tumor (half of us die within the first year, so I'm doing great). My wife has had to take a massive burden upon her own shoulders. She considers each day that I am alive a gift--that is true love.
