This is the first time I've tried starting this sort of thread, so Mods please fix any booboos I've made, and also if possible add in other news sources as suggested by NZ-based FReepers. Thanks.

Thanks. Although I need to get off soon and go to National's function at Alexandra Park. Anyone would like to continue my work?

Streaming video feed is very unreliable from here (east coast US) maybe because of lots of Kiwi expats tuning in? Nah probably not at 4 AM. ;)

Channel One saying Labour will pull up a bit but sound worried. Greens way down from last time.

Summary of results for the Party Vote
Photogallery: Election Day

Sep 17, 2005

With 5% of the nationwide party vote counted in the 2005 General Election the National Party is leading Labour.

National is sitting on 43.5%, Labour on 37.2%, New Zealand First on 5.9% and the Greens pushing the threshold on 4.8%.

Massey University statistician Hugh Morton says at this point things are not looking good for Labour.

"Labour would want to be much closer to National at this stage if they were going to hope to win," Morton says.

However, he says at this stage he would not want to call it and the election is still in the balance.

I was campaisning for National yesterday. We worked from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Initially we held up billboard signs saying "Don Brash for PM (Prime Minister)", "Change the Government", and "Party Vote National" at the intersections between Dominion Road and Balmoral Road in Auckland. These two roads were full of commuters going home after work and they lead to Mt Albert and Mt Roskills respectively. Now both electorates are Labour-leaning (Mt Albert is in fact the home seat of the current Labour Prime Minister Helen Clark) and 75% of those who responded to our messages were actually positive. Imagine a decently conservative GOP candidate getting a good cheer at downtown Chicago and you will get the gust of what's happening.

Then we went to a truly swing area called Kingland and almost every reaction there were positive. I then knew that Labour's in deep trouble, and I would say the ship is sinking for them.

I see TVNZ had separate live steams for NZ and non-NZ so I'm wondering if they are focusing bandwidth in-country. I've never had trouble getting video from AU or NZ before.

Having much better luck with Radio New Zealand, www.rnz.co.nz.

It's just after 8:00pm (Sat. eve.) in Wellington, and nearly 9:00pm on Chatham Island (NZ territory).

Time around the world

I've never had trouble getting video from AU or NZ before.

Neither have I. I've always had great success with ABC (Australian Broadcasting) and "Triple-J" also in Australia.

Now the whole TVNZ site has bogged down for me. But I tried some other NZ connections, like MSN's affiliate, Xtra, and its news page loads normally: http://xtramsn.co.nz/news/0,,13174,00.html.

Thanks BSF - I've switched over to audio since the video is so poor. I might video again once it gets later NZ time, to see if that makes a difference.
