The bill makes very good sense. The problem facing the bill is the bureaucracy that sees the Tax Code as a political tool and a political weapon. This system basically nullifies these "tools" for politicians. It also provides for the redistribution of wealth, a horribly socialistic premise from which many of us suffer today.

It would be a beautiful day to see the IRS reduced to one building outside of Washington somewhere. The revenue enhancement the government would realize, the heavy reduction in corruption, tax evasion, would save the taxpayers untold amounts.

It always gets down to the old fact: Is it good for the people who will approve or disapprove it??

A Taxreform bump for you all.

If you would like to be added to this ping list let me know.

John Linder in the House(HR25) & Saxby Chambliss Senate(S25) offer a comprehensive bill to kill all income and SS/Medicare payroll taxes outright and replace them with with a national retail sales tax administered by the states.

H.R.25,S.25
A bill to promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national retail sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.

Refer for additional information:

Horrible idea. Horribly recession-prone for starters, and will be much more difficult to enforce (collect) than the current system.

More idiot-level propaganda for the FairTax.

I can't believe y'all are still trying to pimp this book when it's admittedly full of lies.

On second thought, I can believe it. It's just par for the course for FairTaxers.

FWIW, Neal Boortz has published info correcting some errors of omission in the book. Here's a link.

Later on he writes:

Double-Taxing those who have already worked and saved for their retirement. This one is so easy; I just don't know why some people are having trouble grasping it. Retirees who have are living off their savings are still paying taxes. They're paying the embedded taxes present in everything they buy. Those embedded taxes will simply be replaced with the embedded FairTax. Virtually an even swap. Retirees will not be paying any more in taxes than they're paying now.
For people who are living on pretax retirement savings this is true. But I don't believe it is true for those living on post-tax retirement savings such as a Roth IRA.

Twice now I have heard Neal on his radio show spar with callers about this. And both times he has just swept it under the rug, cut off the caller and gone to a break or taken the next caller.

Facts on Fair Tax show it's a great idea
LOL! You people live in your own little world.

There are no "facts on Fairtax", it doesn't exist...But there is Fairtax lies, hope, wishful thinking and conjecture

Even Boortz had to do a major "fact" lie retraction.

Some people use scepticism as a way to feel intelligent. A truly good sceptic is sceptical of his own scepticism. It seems to me that any good debate requires the latter.

It's good to see some of you are good sceptics.

Thanks for the discussion.

I think that Property taxes and the sinful SS tax would be raised rather quickly, and we don't have any say or little say in those taxes...

the govt thinks is can keep creeping up the SS tax and make we poor suckers work longer without a glitch....

and property taxes....it'll force us out of our home if things keep going the way they are...

where govt people see extra money, they go after it....

I remember reading recently a fascinating book, The Mythical Man-Month.

Here we have the "Mythical Family of Four".
I have found all discussions of this proposal fraudulent in that it is one sided. I have never seen a discussion where real people ask real questions and get full, clear answers.

The book, and all talk-show presentations offer the same tired examples that makes it sound like the best thing since sliced bread.
I suspect the reality is the biggest middle class rip-off since Clinton's "retroactive tax", and the baddest redistribution of wealth since Lyndon Johnson.

Oh, and by the way, there is no iron-clad, irrevocable guarantee that we won't have additional taxes created in the future.

Thank you but no, thank you.
