Memphis -- A university student from Egypt was ordered held without bond after prosecutors said they found a pilot's uniform, chart of Memphis International Airport and a DVD titled "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act" in his apartment.

The FBI is investigating whether Mahmoud Maawad, 29, had any connection to terrorists. He is awaiting trial on charges of wire fraud and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.

Maawad, who is in the United States illegally, told the judge during a hearing Thursday that he is studying science and economics at the University of Memphis.

"My school is everything. I stay in this country for seven years; I stay for the school," he said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Parker said Thursday that the airport-related items were found during a Sept. 9 search.

You might be interested to know that a few years ago, a Fed Ex pilot, not foreign born, tried to hijack a cargo plane here in Memphis, and almost killed the crew. Somehow, even though they were severely injured they were able to make that airplane do things that were supposed to be impossible. Only by the grace of God did this crew keep the lunatic from flying into the Fed Ex hub and destroying the most of the fleet. My point is that terrorist are every where.

The company reported Maawad to authorities when he didn't pay for $2,500 of merchandise it had delivered, Gulczynski said.

Being a terrorists is one thing, but we'll be damned if he thinks he is going to be a dead beat terrorists to boot!

"Another failure of the Borders and how transparent they are. "

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this guy, as the 9-11 hijackers, ENTERED the US LEGALLY. He overstayed his visitor's visa, hence he is now in the country illegally.

"He entered the United States at New York City from Egypt in 1998 and his visitor’s visa expired in 1999. He has been in the country illegally since then."

"Post 9/11, the universities are supposed to be serious about keeping track of their foreign students."

You'd think they could at least, at the very, very, very least, have maken sure that all their MUSLIM students were here LEGALLY.

But noooooooooooooh, to quote John Belushi from another bit.

That was an interesting documentary.

Yes it was. I learned a lot. I had no idea how tricky/different it would be to fly a commerical plane than the smaller planes. Thanks for your added info.

Not the FBI's fault judges keep letting these goes go. Able Danger stuff reveals that military was prevented from passing info on to FBI by LAWYERS. FBI in Arizona thought flight training was a problem but Washington LAWYERS didn't follow up because they thought it was profiling. Agents wanted to search Mousaui's computer but Washinton LAWYERS wouldn't let them. Don't be so quick to bash FBI. Trying to do best they can, often with two hands tied behind their backs!

Your welcome my FRiend.

Commercial aircraft and business jets fly themselves for the most part, however without a qualified and experienced pilot on board to resolve issues when they crop up, complacent travel could become a most annoying situation.

Do you fly?

If so, what do you fly?

No, I don't fly, but I've been in the little planes, four seater, I think it was. It was quite something being right up front next to the pilot. I'll never forget that experience, flying over southwestern Colorado area. It was very different than the commercial planes I've always been in.
