They have much in common with many who vote on the right as well. One issues voters often lack the patience necessary to effect a braod spectrum of changes.
Any decision or action against abortion *rights* bolsters and reaffirms the sanctity of the individual life and individual rights thereby eroding the the designs of those with a more collectivist/socialist vision. When the state is legally compelled to defend the most innocent and defenseless among us, the statists must acknowledge being in a position of weakness to the citizenry, and they will resist this notion to the last.
