Two hosts at the liberal radio network Air America are defending Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan - saying he's not wrong to suspect that white people deliberately blew up the levees in New Orleans.
"You cannot blame people for coming up with conspiracy theories," Air America host Chuck D. said, after he was asked Thursday about the paranoid pronouncement by MSNBC's Tucker Carlson.
"They look on television and see that the government is four days late in saving people [who are] supposed to be their citizens," Chuck D. explained.
Carlson gave him a second chance to denounce Farrakhan's lunatic declaration, saying, "You're a smart guy. You know that white people didn't blow up the levees to kill black people. You've gotta know that didn't happen."
But the Air America host refused to budge, insisting instead that there was a chance Farrakhan could be right.
"I can't say unless I know for sure what's the actual facts and what's actually false," the rapper-turned-talk host said.
Carlson tried a third time, telling Chuck D.: "Look, I can say for certain that it was not a white conspiracy. White people did not blow up the levee to kill black people."
Still, the radio lefty wouldn't denounce Farrakhan's poisonous rant, saying only, "I don't think it's a person at fault but I think the system needs revamping."
After failing to persuade Chuck D., the MSNBC host turned to panelist Rachel Maddow, who also hosts a show on Air America.
Asked if she believed that white people deliberately destroyed the levees, Maddow declined to render a personal judgment - and instead defended the sentiment behind the toxic hypothesis.
"Conspiracy theories don't necessarily help but you have to understand where they come from," she told Carlson. "They come from people feeling like this disaster had a real racial component. I mean, it was a majority-black city that was absolutely abandoned by the country."
On Monday, Farrakhan uncorked his ugly theory, telling a North Carolina audience: "I heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach. It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry."
Yeah, I understand where they come from -- they come from people who have a vested interest in pushing lies over truth. People who push racial hatred for votes. People who think blacks are too stupid to understand why the underlying logic doesn't support the premise. The folks at Air America know better -- but they also know this type of ignorance and hate works for them.
If Bush had wanted to kill 700 black people in NewO he might have been able to do it for less than several billion dollars. But facts don't matter to the Air America types, they benefit from racial unrest and hatred -- much like the KKK does. Hatred pulls in members and listeners -- two peas in a pod.
"But the Air America host refused to budge, insisting instead that there was a chance Farrakhan could be right."
Yup.
Farakhan has peopl who can look through 20 feet of dirty muddy water rusing through a levee and see a crater on the bottom - right through the debris.
But then he also believes there is a flying saucer circling the earth with black people from outer space come to rescue the Islam from the evil "Ice People".
Flipper?
Sylvester Stallone and Mark Gastineau would probably dispute your conclusion.
"Our levees were fine. It was the TERRORISTS."
That's crazy. Everyone who listens to Air AmeriKKKa knows that terrorists would never try to harm us.
He's quite the deep thinker.

Surely there's a third possibility: Calypso Louie KNEW that the racist Feds and their insurance company co-conspirators would have no choice once he and Louisiana's politicians of color put out the truth...they'd be SHAMED into rebuilding all those square miles of slums at taxpayer expense. So, if ANYBODY had a motive to blow up the levee, wouldn't it be the mayor, the governor and Calypso Louie? [Inquiring minds wanna know...]
And they wonder my their ratings are so low? Just how many people in insane asylums have access to radio??
Wouldn't this two and a half story-deep crater under the levee breach still be submerged beneath muddy water at the moment, Minister Farrakhan?
The Nation of Islam has SCUBA teams with underwater cameras now?
If there's no water remaining, the crater would be exposed and it should be easy to find pictures to support your claims -- wouldn't it?
The only folks i can think of with a reason to blow up the levies are the islamic bozos who claimed it was an act of allah that the hurricane hit.
If they had they'd be the first to admit it, and they haven't, so I'm apt to beleive that the Army Corps of Engineers built them to withstand a cat 3 and only got them half implemented seeing as they were sued by environmentalists and unable to complete all the reccomended levees, not surprisingly a half implemented system hit with more than designed for force broke.
Anything air america is off the wall. Some how this does not surprise me at all.If you even listen to them you have to got spend your weekends in rubber rooms and sraight jackets.
You've nailed the motive. What I don't understand is why someone doesn't refute this claim based on it not even being possible. Those of us who know N.O. just shake our heads.
Yes, there is.
Karl Rove.
these guys are really desperate.
as it happens the feds responced to Katrina faster than they did to any other hurricane. the state & locals were susposed to be first responders. the locals didn't follow their plan and the state physically blocked the feds from moving.
what's the big deal?
Greetings! First time post - I had to get into this discussion.
What amazes me is that everyone seems to be ignoring the laws of Physics here - that water seeks the lowest point.
When the levees break, the water is going to go to the lowest point. If the poor people's houses are at the lowest point, they get flooded. If the rich people's houses are at the lowest point THEY get flooded. You can't save rich people by flooding poor people, unless they are on opposite sides of the levee. When they are all sitting in the same bowl (below sea level), the low ground gets flooded, up to the level of the water, and the high ground stays dry. It ain't rocket science. I am amazed that anyone gives ANY credence to these conspiracy theories....
