Air America Hosts: Farrakhan Not Wrong on Levees
NewsMax.com ^ | Sept. 16, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Two hosts at the liberal radio network Air America are defending Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan - saying he's not wrong to suspect that white people deliberately blew up the levees in New Orleans.

"You cannot blame people for coming up with conspiracy theories," Air America host Chuck D. said, after he was asked Thursday about the paranoid pronouncement by MSNBC's Tucker Carlson.

"They look on television and see that the government is four days late in saving people [who are] supposed to be their citizens," Chuck D. explained.

Carlson gave him a second chance to denounce Farrakhan's lunatic declaration, saying, "You're a smart guy. You know that white people didn't blow up the levees to kill black people. You've gotta know that didn't happen."

But the Air America host refused to budge, insisting instead that there was a chance Farrakhan could be right.

"I can't say unless I know for sure what's the actual facts and what's actually false," the rapper-turned-talk host said.

Carlson tried a third time, telling Chuck D.: "Look, I can say for certain that it was not a white conspiracy. White people did not blow up the levee to kill black people."

Still, the radio lefty wouldn't denounce Farrakhan's poisonous rant, saying only, "I don't think it's a person at fault but I think the system needs revamping."

After failing to persuade Chuck D., the MSNBC host turned to panelist Rachel Maddow, who also hosts a show on Air America.

Asked if she believed that white people deliberately destroyed the levees, Maddow declined to render a personal judgment - and instead defended the sentiment behind the toxic hypothesis.

"Conspiracy theories don't necessarily help but you have to understand where they come from," she told Carlson. "They come from people feeling like this disaster had a real racial component. I mean, it was a majority-black city that was absolutely abandoned by the country."

On Monday, Farrakhan uncorked his ugly theory, telling a North Carolina audience: "I heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach. It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry."

I want them on every radio and TV in the country for about a week. I can't imagine a better voter drive for the GOP.

No kidding! Chuck D? "911 is a joke in yo town...," Chuck D? "Public Enemy" Chuck D? WOW! Why don't they just go find David Duke and ask him for his view? Just about equal/opposite ends of the spectrum here IMHO.

the american people for the most part just shake their heads and think how dumb do these dumocrats think we are? <p. It really is the worst form of racism. This kind of rhetoric is to drive poor Blacks away from American society. (Muslim is better?) If they can keep enough blacks out of the mainstream of society, the lefties think they will have to turn to them. Pure unadulterated Racist, cynical, hatefilled inhuman behavior on the part of the Dums and Calypso Louie.

No no no, this is all wrong! Farrakhan was misquoted. He was blaming the "Levys" for the disaster in N.O., not the "levees".

Chuck D. thinks Tupac Shakur is still alive. He's a moonbat in the strongest sense.

Here's another one for you - expanding on your excellent jihadi theory.

It was a one of those suicide scuba divers we recently heard about. Al-Qaeda knew of our hurricane season, planted sleeper cells all along the coast and when this storm popped up on the radar screen, they devised their plan. That is why all of the newscasters who said all day Monday that the city was spared were so surprised.

Our levees were fine. It was the TERRORISTS.

Rush was absolutely hysterical on Wednesday discussing this.

RUSH: Another item that I found last night, ladies and gentlemen, that made me eager to arrive today, is this audio sound bite from Charlotte, North Carolina. Calypso Louie on the case, speaking to a rally in support of his Millions More March (story).

CALYPSO LOUIE: I heard from a very reliable source that under that levee, there was a 25-foot hole, which suggested that it may have been blown up, so that the water would destroy the black part of town, and where the whites were, it would be dry. I am sure that some good is being done, but not nearly enough to answer the cry.

RUSH: So what we have here is the Reverend Farrakhan, Calypso Louie, leader of the Nation of Islam, telling his flock here that he had a very reliable source, that under the levee there was a 25-foot hole which suggested it may have been blown up.

It's an amazing bomb that they had, too, because the bomb knew to send the water only to black neighborhoods. It must have included the neighborhood of William Jefferson, black Democrat, Louisiana, because his affluent neighborhood home was also -- well, no, it wasn't flooded. The bomb knew to stop the water at the third step on the front porch of Democrat William Jefferson's house (story) on Marengo Street, the fashionable uptown section of his district.

Mr. Snerdley informs me these are called smart racist bombs. They've been in the US arsenal unknown before today, last night for many, many years, apparently. And so the bomb blew up the levee and sent the water on a path to destroy only black homes.

Now, we don't know why this is the case, but probably, I can guess they wanted to raze and get rid of these black people and these black homes so they could build something for Halliburton or the Carlisle Group or maybe an oil refinery in that area.

We'll keep a sharp eye as the rebuilding of New Orleans takes place to find out just what does go up on these areas of these destroyed homes.

In other words, Blacks are held to a lower standard than whites. A white guy making these allegations would be lunatic fringe. A Black guy 'can't be blamed' for making them. This is a great example of liberal white condescension to Blacks and the 'soft bigotry of low expectations.'

These people are so nuts it's scary. Yeah, the "government" dynamited the levee to kill black people. They need serious help.

"Okay, Mr. Mayor, here's what we need you to do; herd all the black folks into the SuperDome so we can blow up your city's levee and try to drown 'em all. Are you aboard?"

Not to mention that our backup plan to blow up the Superdome had to be scrapped because some Whites were mistakenly allowed to enter.

Too bad Carlson was not more knowledgeable about New Orleans. There is no "black" side of town in New Orleans. It is not possible to blow up a levee and just affect "black" people that I'm aware of. The 17th Street canal levee breach first affected Metairie which is probably more "white". I'm also not even sure what "black" means. New Orleans is a melting pot of ethnic and racial mixtures. Farakhan must be ignorant about the area.

Well Chuck D, or Charles Ridenhour as his mother named him, is now an on-air personality at Air America, so he is officially a pundit.

If Maureen Dowd can have a column, why can't he have a radio show? There's no answer to that question.
