This is our government at work due to all the whining and crying of the left in the aftermath of Katrina. This is just a tip of the waste iceburg to come I'm afraid to say.

You can take the cop out of New Orleans, but you can't take New Orleans out of the cop.

Hypocrites! Tell me, why is it kosher for Mayor Nagin to send his stressed-out cops to Las Vegas for some R&R but its a crime for a poor guy to get a little fun in a strip club. Mind you, I don't condone the misuse of taxpayers' money, but don't single out the little guy for doing the same thing the bigshots do with it.

The Houston Police Department just formed a task force to investigate the abuse of the cards, which were distributed to thousands of Katrina hurricane victims to provide for necessities, such as food, clothing and toiletries.
task force set up to investigate evacuee's. manpower taken off other more important issues in Houston because of the stupidity of our New Orleans friends.
Houston is going to have a problem.

Republicans promised to put a stop to crap like this if they were put in charge.
They've been in charge of everything for years and years.
Now who are they going to blame? And why are they still screwing taxpayers and lying to us?

On the first day, the police found the cards being used to buy beer while ogling exotic dancers. Well, yes, but improper things were going on as well.

Restrictions on the cards say they can't be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco or firearms.

That's what happens when the government throws our money at a problem without thinking it through.

"Houston is going to have a problem."
I'd bet Houston is able to handle it.

Hey, a little fun after a long and torturous ride in a school bus from NO to Houston is OK.

You should care because possible that it's not the evacuees who are using the cards for this, but FEMA or Red Cross employees who are embezzling the cards before they are actually distributed. It at least needs to be investigated to determine who used the cards to make sure they weren't stolen by relief workers.

Great point Freedom, I overlooked that possibility myself.

no doubt they will. it is going to stretch some of their resources.
they have to deal with a whole new element. They need to send the bill for all these investigations and jailings to the state of la.

I do believe those who are in leadership positions deserve harsher punishment than average folks because they're role models and more is expected of them. The higher the position, the faster the fall from grace.

I read that some people bought $800 handbags. If someone blows their money on things like that, how needy are they really?
