KENNESAW, Ga., Sept. 12 - The cash register at Goody's clothing store here flashed $106.01 - for a dress shirt and three pairs of Levi's - but as Lori Smith reached for her credit card, a nearby voice brought the transaction to a halt.
"Tell you what, why don't you let me take care of it?" said Scott Evans, his delivery as smooth as a car salesman's as he directed Ms. Smith to a partner brandishing stacks of $1 bills.
Mr. Evans explained that they were there on behalf of NBC, promoting an unscripted show, "Three Wishes," which will have its premiere on the network on Sept. 23. In the series, the singer Amy Grant travels to a different town each week in an effort to fulfill the heart's desire of needy families and community groups.
For a network that dominated the prime-time ratings for a decade with sophisticated urban comedies like "Cheers," "Seinfeld," "Frasier" and "Friends," only to tumble to fourth place last season without them, Ms. Grant's show is a radical departure. "Three Wishes" is aimed, in no small part, at a churchgoing rural and suburban audience. And its marketing plan, evocative of a red-state presidential campaign, bears scant resemblance to any NBC has crafted before.
......... The network has also booked Ms. Grant - a pop singer who vaulted to fame singing Christian songs, crossed over to mainstream radio and recently released an album of hymns titled "Rock of Ages" - for interviews on Christian radio and taken out advertising in small-town newspapers.

Trying to use Amy Grant's popularity to "win over" the Christian just won't work. Especially in the ridiculous premise of this show.
Most people of true faith don't give a rat's patootie about "wishes" or financial/material gain.
Another swing and a miss from NBC.
The only time I ever tuned into NBC was at 7:00 PM on Sundays.
Now we're bringing back "Queen for a Day"!
Why anyone would watch/read/or listen to MSM is simply a puzzlement!
You forgot "How Democrat".
The fact that NBC is using here as their token "Christian" for this piece of pandering crap says volumes about how out of touch they are with evangelical Christians.
Well, in all honesty, it wasn't that kind of thing. The one I saw was a kid about 10 years old (white, middle-class), who wanted nothing more than to be legally adopted by his stepdad who he loved. I don't know why it wasn't happening, red tape or something. But the THREE WISHES people made it happen with all the fanfare and Hollywood touches in a big ceremony. It was pretty sweet.
It wasn't the really hard core down on their luck kind of thing that Queen For A Day was. Harmless, girly TV at best. It's geared at the same audience who watch Extreme Home Makeover...you know...people who've had some bad luck getting a break, that's all.
Hoochie Mama! Hoochie Mama...!
Serenity now. SERENITY NOW!!!!!!!
"Reality" telivision is sputtering to an end.
I loved that show last season. But what's with the 2+ gay themes per week on that show this season?
I'll never again be able to hear somebody say, "Oh Daddy!" without bursting out into fits of laughter.
Lloyd? Lloyd Braun?!
Love Lloyd Braun! You should try his chinese gum!
You're not giving away that Water Pik!
WHat happened to that new show, I think it was called, "Our Town", where the entire small town was put into a studio and were exposed for all of their quirks, but in the end they were all given something really cool. THe first one had a town of about 300 and they were all given scooters.
I would love to see a town of nothing but scooters.
He sold me a computer.
I missed the first season and started watching the beginning of the second. At least they aren't trying to portray homosexuals in the normal Hollywood PC light. They are just as messed up as anyone else in the show. The lesbian domestic abuse scene in the last episode was brual. I don't mind homosexual characters in shows, I just don't want PC propaganda pushed down my throat (er, so to speak).
