In an emotional end to the trial of Chai Soua Vang, he testified this afternoon that three of the hunters he killed deserved to die.
Vang, charged with killing six hunters and wounding two others in a confrontation over trespassing last November, testified that two of the hunters deserved to die because they called him names.
"Why did Mr. [Robert] Crotteau deserve to die?" asked Wisconsin Attorney General Peg Lautenschlauger, the lead prosecutor.
"Because he was the one who confronted me and called me names, and that's who he is," said Vang, 36, of St. Paul.

I just posted on the other thread that this testimony should have gotten him the needle. Instead it should mean, he will spend the rest of his life behind bars(hopefully a short life). I guess I should be careful what I say or imply. And, no it isn't because the defendant is Hmong; it is because he is a cold blooded murderer using his race as a shield.
Last time I checked, it is not a good idea to cuss a man carrying a gun.
There was no excuse for Vang to shoot them, but sometimes it is a lot wiser to keep quiet.
Again, I am not defending or justifying Vang. He should be executed.
Too bad Wisconsin doesn't have the death penalty.
I'm still trying to digest the live testimony I listened to this afternoon. I'll try to boil it down for a future forum.
If anybody else caught Vang's testimony today, let's have your analysis.
How do you know they cursed at him?
This Vang guys attorney(s) must really stink. ( which I am not complaining about really, the guy is guilty no doubt).
But if this man is spouting stuff like this on the stand, his attorney(s) should have forseen this and kept him under wraps.
I wonder if this was done on purpose, looking down the road for an appeal.
I thought this guy had some high profile attorneys representing him?
I guess the attorney had no choice but to put him on the stand. It does sound like the people who confronted him escalted the situation. If he gets off it's going to be open season on white people, I hope the jury realizes that.
Good move, putting him on the stand.
I haven't been following it beyond here at FR but that "It's who he was" comment makes me wonder if he's killed others. Almost sounds like Dennis Rader.
That is what he said in the article. He may be lying, of course, but I still say it is not a good idea to curse a man with a gun.
The grandmother's statement is appropriate. I think she feels shamed by her son's actions and sorry for the families.
I need to shut down for the night.
I'm fried.
Have at it and I'll catch up in the morning.
If there will be any live coverage by MN media tomorrow, I'll ping ya'.
I hope this guy lives a very long time in a very bad prison.
According to the guy who shot unarmed people in the back.
I am sightly skeptical of his version of events.
Bravo Sierra.
Scopes aren't simply removed. It takes tools and time.
I don't believe any "scope" testimony in this trial.
Of course.
