---It's as bad as I expected. Why as a taxpayer do I have to "do my part" to rebuild an area that I don't live in.---

Because this is how America behaves when we have a big disaster. If it was your part of the country, we'd be doing it for you.

Mort: (paraphrased) This is free market conservatism, people can own their own homes.....

WWWWRRRRROOOONNNNNGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free market conservatism is being in control of your life and not being a slave to the government! You can choose to own your home, you can choose to be a success, you can choose to be the best! But we won't do it for you, it is up to you..
The alternative is socialistic liberals who's only choice is you can be a politician or you can be a slave to the government deciding everything for you.

Let the Buchanites and Constitution Party whackjobs rant. Bush laid out a clear vision for rebuilding the area and providing emergency, not permament, assistance to those who lost homes and businesses. He also acknowledged the failures of the system.

Agreed. I'm glad someone didn't say why should we as a taxpayer why should I pay the military to kill people who didn't attack me personally... oh wait I listened to those people cheering Galloway last night.

I spent almost a month in the Ice Storm of '98 without power, water, heat, and suffered thousands of dollars worth of damages. Did the FEMA man come and bring me hot meals, water, and a nice check? No and nobody expected it.

And I got hit buy 2 hurricanes last year, (and had to pay the Feds for the privilage) see my post at this link:

And what about the "generations of discrimination" in the speech that Bush wants me (and you, and all of us) to pay for...Katrina is going to be only second to 9/11 as an excuse to squander enormious amounts of money.

I disagree. It should be done voluntarily by the private sector. Just another example of a politician being generous with money that isn't his.
