(I say the feds did fine -- it was the state and locals who let civil unrest get so bad that FEMA had to withdraw)
he is a big man by taking the blame for this...
bigger than I would be....of course HE doesn't deserve it. But my guess is that he is doing it for higher reasons that petty politics.
He is taking the blame in the hope that people will move on from the finger pointing.
DID YOU FEEL THAT? It was the size of the Federal Government growing again. It moved the Earth.

I like the way he reminded us of other historical disasters & said we are all tied together....and will overcome this as well.....my eyes filled with tears when he talked of the jazz funerals...I was fortunate to attend one in NO......what a surperb closing to his speech!
I agree with you, but we have lost any hope of focusing blame where it belongs.
You are exactly right - GWB lost the premise on this subject by suggesting this wasn't the case - foolishly so -
