Didn't anyone have insurance? Yes, many people had insurance, or thought they did, but insurance companies are exactly jumping to write checks- that is why MS is already talking about a lawsuit against them.

I think this is setting a terrible precedent. If no one else agrees with you, I will. Further along in the speech he mentions the possible necessity for the federales to "take over" early during natural(?) disasters. I think that's also bad precedent. It lets incompetent local/state government off the hook so that local voters won't have to be as concerned about who they vote for. I think it stinks, but that's just me.

Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to address
this:"btw, did you even listen to the speech, or are you on bushbash autopilot?"
I heard the CiC promising to write a blank check to help rebuild Atlantis.
Why must we all be impressed about that?
To: Pukin Dog
The media overreached AGAIN.

"Conservatism is finally dead when George Bush can sound like LBJ and be lauded for it by a majority even on the FreeRepublic."
Correct me if I am wrong, but I got the impression he was talking about opportunity and job incentives. Yes the govt will start out helping, with the intention of people working to improve their situation. It may not improve some people incapable of improving themselves, but we will cross that bridge later. I do believe it will be dealt with. How is this a death?

Was Dean Reynolds the ABC reporter? If so, he failed 110% to get storm victims to somehow blame the President."Dean, come home, now!, your pink slip is waiting"

Are you old enough to have heard LBJ, kcar?
Cause if you are, then you know that this speech didn't sound anything LIKE LBJ.

So many of the anti-Bush people here tonight can be summarized by simply saying, "Ernest T. Bass goes to community college."

We got it all straightened out! But thanks.

This speech ranked right up there with the crap LBJ was spewing when I was in highschool. Except that LBJ could fake sincerity much better. Comparing this to LBJ is like comparing Iraq with Viet Nam. And we all know who does both.

That one is gonna leave a mark

Thank you tsmith120.
You are correct.
I apologize if my reply was construed to be for Howlin.
My response was for MrMean's comment on the thread.
I have the utmost respect for Howlin and his abounding compassion for our fellow Americans.

Funny how none of the Cast Iron Conservatives realize how much Fed Tax REVENUE is being lost everyday that area is devastated. Funny how often "Fiscal Conservatives" are are pennywise and pound foolish. It isn't just the 3 states, it is a whole lot of river traffic to and from the whole Midwest. Sitting on our butts doing NOTHING, as the "Fiscal Conservatives" advocate, actually GROWS the deficit because of the reductions in tax income.

New Orleans is not just A port, but THE port. That's why it was founded by the French, even though even they recongized it as a mud bank on the side of the Mississippi.

Yes. I'm sick of the "preachers" on FR who want the Quarter torn down, or say this hurricane was some sort of message from God.They are probably just pretending to be men of the cloth. After all, this is the internet.
