I think Bush said quite clearly he would get to the bottom of went wrong. I could feel the mayor and gov getting a bit nervous as I perceived that as a subtle threat to THEIR actions.
Fair speech but not his greatest. For the occasion it was fine and made his points well. He is clearly engaged and in charge, which is what matters most anyway.

The tax loss per week having NOLA off line is astounding - the payback will be many many times the "cost" in taxes.

No, I think you read that wrong. It's a really BAD backhanded slap at the damned Dems. The Dems kept the poor down and in NO, the poor are black.
The president wants the poor to pull themselves up and stand on their own.
Of course, Morton hates it all.
To: Graymatter
Stephanapolous worrying about cutting spending and/or raising taxes.
They know the president isn't going to raise taxes. And no reason he should. Tax receipts, even after 9/11 and the tax cuts, is at an all time high.

Who cares what Mort thinks? He hates everything. I guess Mort does. I thought it was funny that I was reading your praise of the speech and agreeing with you at the same time Mort was PooPooing it.

Oh I know, it's just the logistical nightmare of keeping track of where all that free flowing money's going that makes me nervous.

Why would black people support Bush? I thought Bush doesn't care about black people. /sarc

ABC got the hell out fast, didn't they? ROTF! Koppel looked SO disappointed. I'm so happy with that response, I could kiss Laz. Uh, no I couldn't.

They're HOPING Bush will have to raise taxes!I'm still not sure how else he can pay for it. Perhaps cut spending elsewhere? Please.

Thank you for your comments. My very large family down here has lost everything they own, one uncle retired in August and was proud that he'd just paid off his home in St. Bernard parish.
What insurance they have does not recover memories, sentimental items and photographs of the passage of time.
There will be a reckoning with politicians, local and state crooks and environmentalists about where the money designated to improve levees went for the last forty years. People will have to be held accountable for stopping improvements and for diverting (stealing funds) but this is not the moment for that.
This is a time to help families put their lives and homes back together.
