While I love this approach, I must admit to finding its timing curious. (If Roberts is as close to confirmation as most politicians maintain he is.)

I think they are just setting the standard for the next nomination.

I believe the memos in question have nothing to do with Roberts. They were generated way before his name came up. This is an attempt to stymie the Rats on future appointments.

This could have a lot to do with the next nominee. Warning the dems that they are ready to play ball.

The pubbies are finally throwing down a gauntlet, exposing the Rats and their cohorts BEFORE Bush names his next nominee. I think it's brilliant and love the mental picture: Turning on the lights and watching roaches head for cover.

They are setting the stage for the next SCOTUS nomination and you can take that to the bank. This is the shot across the bow that the gloves are off.

A way for the Pubs to let the Dems know they aren't gonna put up with any hanky panky.

The "Political Circus" has reached new heights and shows no sign of receding. Personally, I believe that is HIGH TIME that Republicans "Fight Fire With Fire" instead of drooling and mumbling "Can't We All Just Get Along?"...

This information, if attained will serve the Republicans well in the fight for future confirmations. Nothing will take the air out of the Dems sails then to have their collaboration with the fringe groups spread all over America.

I find it interesting for a different reason. Maybe they realize or think Roberts isn't quite as conservative as everyone would like you to believe. Why conservatives have to nominate "conservatives in disguise" is beyond me.
Could there be souter in the soup?
