U.S. House backs hate crime measure protecting gays

WASHINGTON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday unexpectedly backed a measure to expand federal hate crime protection to gay people, a measure that House conservatives had blocked for years.

The Senate has passed similar legislation, which also expanded protections for the disabled, several times in recent years but House conservatives had argued that these cases should be dealt with on a local or state level without additional federal intervention.

This time the hate crime measure was attached to a bipartisan bill known as the Children's Safety Act aimed at tightening reporting requirements for child sex offenders. Companion legislation has not yet moved through the Senate, so the ultimate fate of the gay protection provision is uncertain.

Still backers were jubilant.

And the only reason that sexual orientation and "gender identity" are added is to promote homosexuality.

It's a big deal.

In other news....a large squadron of flying pigs was seen by eyewitnesses on the ground circling the US capitol today. Other sources confirm the sighting.

The White House had no comment.

Because, as I'm told, if you don't, you must be a socialist, a Buchananite, or a THIRD PARTY VOTER (spit!)

You wouldn't want to be called that, would you?

What happened to equal protection under the law? Why are gays afforded more protection than little old ladies? This is unconstitutional on many fronts, but everyone gives it a free pass because it shows "we care". Blaahhh.

Here's a Human Events that says it did get a roll call, but it links to an Amendment No. 25 and the one I cited was Amendment No. 23 so I'm not sure if it did get a roll call vote or not.

Point taken. Every time some scum rips off an old ladies purse they should also be charged with a hate crime. No joke, you have a valid point!

Ha, there are threads of thousands of posts discussing that.

I stay to nudge the bots.

Never know when one will wake up.

Why let them sleep in their hypnotic bliss.

No - Weldon (FL) Now I am really confused.

Dave Weldon's a Christian conservative from Florida. Curt Weldon is from PA?

You do gotta wonder how they snuck that in there. There are a lot of good Reps who would typically call for a roll call vote at the very least on a vote like that (the amendment to the bill).

I apologize. I was thinking of Foley (FL) not Weldon (FL).

Sometimes it's tough to keep them all straight.

Thanks for the correction.

Ah, that makes more sense. The usual suspects, most of 'em pro-aborts as well.

That's why the NRCC gets none of my money. I support conservatives, not RINOs.
