"Another newbie who misses the point."
I think missing the point is likely as most folks read from top to bottom. When I'm reading an article, I read the last paragraph of the story first, and then begin skimming at the beginning and work my way down.

Speaking of the scale of destruction and death, he stated quietly and certainly: "This is worse." Uh-huh.
9/11: 3000 dead.
Katrina: less than 800 dead.

The "point" is in the title. I hope most read titles ;)

I saw a NY firefighter who escaped the WTC interviewed on television this week. He concurred with Madonna: "This is worse." ... Is he wrong too? Being worse is not a prize. They are both bad, but in different ways.

You will be challenged on this forum, so "make a habbit" of taking notes before posting.

It may very well cost more in livesSuppositions don't cut it. Reality is what you need to face.
As to cost, 9/11 began the War on Terror. Factor that into your figures.
Also, death by murder is worse than a natural or accidental death.

Madonna was left stunned Isn't she in a constant state of "stunned"???? WHY WHY WHY do these idiots insist on opening their mouths? Since when was 9/11 a natural disaster??? Did I miss something?

"What's she saying then?"
She's certainly not comparing Hurricane Katrina to another (previous) hurricane.
She's clearly speaking of 9/11 as a natural disaster. Katrina and 9/11 are the only two topics discussed in the article.
