Here's Hoping Biden Is Right

Sen. Joe Biden probably does not realize it, but in his exchange with Judge John Roberts in today’s confirmation hearing, he echoed the basic complaint conservatives have made about the Supreme Court for decades: It has become a super-legislature where five unelected people can decide--virtually without accountability--the most profound issues of public policy.

Biden did this when he candidly likened Roberts to a senator running for office--then chastised Roberts for not answering questions about “issues” just as he would be made to do if he were a politician running for office.

“[I]t’s kind of interesting this Kabuki Dance that we have in these hearings,” said Biden. “As if the public does not have a right to know what you think [on] the fundamental issues facing the country. There is no more possibility that anyone of us here would be elected to the United States Senate without expressing broadly, and sometimes specifically, to our public, what it is we believe. The idea that the Founders sat there and they said: Now, look, here’s what we’re going to do. We are going to require the two elected branches to answer questions to the public with no presumption they should have the job of senator, president or congressman. But guess what? We are going to have a . . .

"It's unfair to criticize Biden for these thoughts. Surely they were plagiarized from someone else."

Hey, that's MY line!!!\

Between Biden and Kennedy, if I WERE a democrat, I'd become a Republican...YESTERDAY!!! I have never, NEVER seen such unadulterated silliness in my whole life!!! John F. Kennedy, a real, live, democrat, must be rolling in his grave.

I have a vague recollection of Biden getting tossed from some school, but I certainly could be wrong. I do know that his presidential ambitions came to a screeching halt when he was caught using a plagiarized stump speech.

From Wikipedia:

"Controversy broke Biden's candidacy for the U.S. presidency in the 1988 Presidential campaign. He was alleged to have plagiarized a speech from British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock. After Biden withdrew from the race, it was learned that he had correctly credited Kinnock on other occasions but failed to do so in an Iowa speech that was recorded and distributed to reporters by aides to Michael Dukakis, the eventual nominee. Dukakis fired the senior aide responsible, but the damage had already been done to Biden.

It was also alleged that Biden had plagiarized while in law school 20 years earlier in a first-year legal-writing class. Unaware of appropriate standards for legal briefs at the beginning of his legal training, Biden used a single footnote rather than multiple citations required to cite five pages from a legal article. Both Syracuse University Law School and the Delaware State Bar Association cleared Biden of plagiarism charges."

That ahole tried to run for president in 1988? I had no idea. The idea that he plagiarized from a British MP rings a pretty loud bell though. Nice research.

LOL. Here's a web site that uses Biden as an example when discussing plagiarism:

http://nutsandbolts.washcoll.edu/plagiarism.html

I have seen two comments in Democrat chat sites about Biden having plagiarized a term paper in college, but I have not found a legitimate news article substantiating this. I am not saying it isn't true, but I just haven't found a good link.

If the Rats don't want what they think is a sphinx, they can try to vote him down and get enough rinos to agree with them. But it hasn't been until recent decades that the confirmation of a justice has raised so much brouhaha.

If Roberts was a more antagonistic person, he might well have explained that our Founders did indeed establish a mechanism by which Supreme Court Justices may be appointed without answering questions. The mechanism is that the President nominate the person and the Senate by majority vote consents to that appointment. There is no requirement that questions be asked or answered.

Biden and the other liberals just don't like the answer. Elections have consequences.

didn't Biden plagiarize a speech when he was already in office?

He had the nerve to plagiarize a JFK speech, as if no one would notice. Towering ego!

GtG

Biden....*rolls eyes*. He's one of those guys on the witch hunt over nutritional supplements, too. Yeah, buddy, just hand them right over to the pharmaceutical companies like they did in Germany and parts of Europe and watch the prices increase 5 fold.

He's usually an eloquent speaker, and at times he seems to have a strand of the moderate in him. As for the rest of the time...
