Well, he picked RED maples. There are certainly a lot of other trees he could have used. Anyone with half a brain can see the connection with the crescent. Can you imagine the hue and cry if the shape had "accidently" resembled a cross?!?! I don't believe for a second that it was unintentional. They're just trying to make anyone who objects look like a bad guy by playing innocent and telling us that we're "reading too much into it. See where your mind is?" I'll bet if it goes through, someone will take a saw to some of those trees and recreate the memorial.
I agree, I think if this design is built, those maple trees will mysteriously contract some fatal disease.
