No fat left in Federal Budget?
The Washington Times ^ | 9/14/2005 | Amy Fagan and Stephen Dinan

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said yesterday that Republicans have done so well in cutting spending that he declared an "ongoing victory," and said there is simply no fat left to cut in the federal budget. Mr. DeLay was defending Republicans' choice to borrow money and add to this year's expected $331 billion deficit to pay for Hurricane Katrina relief. Some Republicans have said Congress should make cuts in other areas, but Mr. DeLay said that doesn't seem possible. "My answer to those that want to offset the spending is sure, bring me the offsets, I'll be glad to do it. But nobody has been able to come up with any yet," the Texas Republican told reporters at his weekly briefing. Asked if that meant the government was running at peak efficiency, Mr. DeLay said, "Yes, after 11 years of Republican majority we've pared it down pretty good." Congress has passed two hurricane relief bills totaling $62.3 billion, all of which will be added to the deficit.

Clearly, no one has audited Ted Kennedy's entertainment budget in a long, long, time...the food and beverage budget alone would pay for the War on Terror.

That's a heck of a lot of lard.

They're getting paychecks right?

They can cut THAT out.

Cut their pensions, they're millionaires in their own right anyway.

More money saved.

Put them in a dormitory with a dining facility and NO MORE junkets.

More money saved.

Get busy.

Every once in a while someone posts an itemized list of pork barrel expenditures. If the list can be found, then please post so that we can send it to Delay.

Each and every congressman and senator need to be removed from office and never allowed to hold an elected position again.

...bring me the offsets...

Start with 10% of the recent Highway Bill. Next, eliminate the prescription drug boondoggle. There, done.

Sadly, Delay is an idiot.

Sounds a lot like that other idiot David Drier that calles Hugh Hewett's show out here in California.

In 1994 when I helped Newt re-take the congress, I never thought it would be like this 10 years later.

I guess that explains why the federal budget is so much lower than it was before the Republicans gained a majority 11 years ago. Good job, All! Guess Jim can shut down Freerepublic now. Mission accomplished.

Mr DeLay? First, thank you for your efforts in removing yourself from the presidential field in 2008.

Now, as to your specific statement? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'd say that I'm laughing all the way to the poor house, but there's a government program for going insane like that, plus the government program for the poor house, plus public transportation to take me there, plus..

Oh, heck, I'll say it.. Please trim the damn pork out of the budget.
