Dear Friends:
I'm writing to you to explain why it is that we are packing up and heading across the country to rally Americans to support the troops and the mission they are serving on.
Each day the men and women of our Armed Forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan endure grueling conditions - extreme heat and constant enemy fire. They've seen their friends wounded and killed in action.
And now, these fine men and women who are serving their country face constant criticism and ridicule from their own fellow Americans.
So, when we learned that the anti-military Left was planning the largest anti-war protests to date, we had a choice - do nothing or stand up to the anti-war lobby and tell them that we will never allow them to create a Vietnam-culture in this country again.
We thought for a while about whether to just "ignore" these folks - but, at the end of the day is there any doubt that when the anti-war protests in Washington, D.C. begin on September 24th that the old line liberal news media won't give them wall-to-wall coverage?
Of course the media will! And those news reports will get back to our troops serving overseas.
So, you see, even though we are still recuperating from our cross-country trek to Crawford, Texas (as part of the "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" tour) we had little choice but to mobilize a patriotic, pro-American counter to the anti-war protests that will soon start.
Beginning tomorrow we will share with you our itinerary for the trip - and the stops we will be making across the nation. We hope you and your family & friends will be able to turn out to greet us and cheer our nationwide bus tour on.
