House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said yesterday that Republicans have done so well in cutting spending that he declared an "ongoing victory," and said there is simply no fat left to cut in the federal budget.
Mr. DeLay was defending Republicans' choice to borrow money and add to this year's expected $331 billion deficit to pay for Hurricane Katrina relief. Some Republicans have said Congress should make cuts in other areas, but Mr. DeLay said that doesn't seem possible.

Does no one at all remember just last month, when DeLay and the rest of the parasites passed their disgusting "energy" and "highway" porkage?
How the hell can anybody continue to support these clowns?

It's official, Delay has been in Washington too long. Time for him to go home and let another citizen take over his job.

If the current federal budget represents an ongoing victory, we lost a long, long, long time ago.

The rest of it is not quite as bad as that quote. This is in the context of whether or not to require offsets in exchange for Katrina relief.
And there is one positive thing... Even the Democrats know better than to suggest raising taxes. In fact, Trent Lott is the only person I've heard talking about that and it was off the cuff and not repeated.

is this satire? Well, it's a joke on all the fools who voted for Republicans thinking they weren't being lied to.

DeLay declares 'victory' in war on budget fat Sorta reminds me of the fat chick who goes through the salad trough piling on the croutons, bac-o-bits and dressing over a pile of lettuce bigger than her head and convinces herself she is being "good" because she is "only" having a salad for lunch.

331 billion isn't really that big of a deficit. Some tax cuts Should take care of it. At one time, Canada, with a population of only 25 million, had a national debt close to that towards the end of the Trudeau years.
Considering what we are spending on the millitary, It's not all that bad. Think of what it could be if we had liberals spending like there's no tomorrow like Canada. We'd have a 3.31 TRILLION dollar deficit.

How can I be so confused? Maybe the idea of "spend and spend more" is their description of cutting spending. Certainly a funny way to show it.

331 billion isn't really that big of a deficit. Some tax cuts Should take care of it. Are you freakin' kidding me???? That gigantic deficit (piled onto an even more gigantic debt every damn year) is the result of phony "tax cuts" made without offsetting spending cuts.
I could sit down with any governmental budget and get rid of 40% of it in 24 hours. Then, within a week, I'd get serious about cutting it.

Whatever they do, for the love of Pete, make sure there's enough money to rebuild Trent Lott's house back bigger and better than ever.
That was sarcastic.

I didn't have the deficit in mind. Instead, I was thinking of the money going to feed the enormous size and scope of the federal government.

From the article
CAGW and the Heritage Foundation also suggest rescinding the 6,000-plus earmarked projects in the recently passed highway bill. But Mr. DeLay said those projects are "important infrastructure" and eliminating them could undermine the economy as Congress tries to offer hurricane relief.
"It is right to borrow to pay for it," he said. "But it is not right to attack the very economy that will pay for it."
Does the Republican party now view federal spending as a tool to be used to shore up the economy? I can't find that anywhere in the party platform.
To: Hank Rearden
If that's the Republican mentality, it won't be long before Republicans are out of power.

As Reagan once said "I did not leave the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party left me!" This is now true of the Republicans. They don't deserve any support and are just as morally corrupt as the Democrats were in 92.
We need to give them a good ass-kicking. Too bad there really is no viable conservative party left.
