BATON ROUGE, United States (AFP) - Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco has accused the federal government of moving too slowly to recover the bodies of hurricane victims, saying her state would hire a private company to do the work.

"No one, it seems, even those at the highest level, seems to be able to break through the bureaucracy to get this important mission done," Blanco said as she met with state officials.

I'm not a tinfoil hat kind of guy but I heard an interesting theory on the radio today. It went like this. Blanko didn't declare an emergency because she wanted to suck Bush in and force him to take declare an emergency himself so the DemocRATS could blast him for abuse of power. I laughed it off until I heard about the ditz blasting FEMA (so what else is new)and taking charge of gathering up the bodies of her voter base. Now I think there could be something to that wacky theory.

You stupid dunce, if you (and Nagin) had tried half as hard to save them as you pretend to be doing recovering them, they would not be dead in the first place.

Methinks Bush's carefully worded acceptance for "federal responsibility" sent shudders through the dems as to a big shoe about to drop. I see a federal criminal investigation case about to develop from criminal negligence. If it can be applied against the nursing home owners, it is good enough for a couple of top LA dem rats.

She hired the same company to perform the same work for which they had already been hired by FEMA. Does mean they get paid twice?

Was it put out for bid?

I'll go you one better. They wanted Bush to declare the emergency, so that the precedent would already be set by the time Hillary was in the White House.

don't hold your breath.

the person who should be most worried about an indictment right now - is Mike Brown.

When the trash is picked up and the dust settles, Mike Brown will be cleaner than a hound's tooth, he did nothing wrong.

The monumental task of giving care to every individual, (with over a million people in similar straits spread over a 95,000 square mile area) within a matter of hours, a day, two days, three days, or a week, was/is logistically overwhelming. In short, it can't be done, period, only fools and knaves would claim otherwise.

Much BS being made as to comparing NYC 911 to Katrina, simply ludicrous. Do the math, the NYC disaster area was 16 acres, Katrina devastated over 60,800,000 acres, an area larger than all of Great Britain which, includes England, Scotland and Wales. It is most frustrating when so many ignorant asses cannot come to grips with the magnitude of the thing,

No doubt Gov. Blanco will be forwarding the bill to Mayor Nagin.

I agree with you - Brown and FEMA did a decent job under the circumstances, having to step into an insurrection and a non-existent command and control structure there.

but this is politics, watch the LA atty general play games. Brown is already the scapegoat, and its the administration that put him there.

I dunno? I see a blood trail that is leading ever closer to Nagin at the moment.

With Dewiit's slower reaction to a much smaller hurricane Floyd and many fewer victims, there are some comparative values to apply. Two weeks after FEMA responded to Floyd, Dewitt had not even began to address housing for the victims. How do we know this, because it was one "Jesse Jackson" (hardly biased) who interviewed him and elicited the answer from him.

The dem mayor, Clinton, and Dewitt let almost one thousand (mostly Black) elderly and disabled die alone in their suffocating apartments without AC. (nor no attempt to remove them to shelters) This during the great 1995 Chicago heat wave, hundreds later died from the effects of the heat. The Chicago mortuary was so flooded with the dead (neighbors complained of stench) when no one claimed the bodies, they buried them in mass graves. This is fact, this is what an independent inquiry later found, but the results were sweep under the rug with help from a complicit MSM which said naught, nor assigned blame.

These an other Clinton disasters will come out in hearings to judge Bush's performance vis-a-vis past false FEMA successes.

FEMA MONEY=FED MONEY=AMERICAN TAXPAYER...I think Lousyana needs to take care of these things their selves. Due to the corruption in Lousyana...it should be their problem and their problem alone. Lousyana has had decades to take care of this problem...long before N.O.'s got flooded.
