A year or two ago the "best" rapper was white, the best golfer was black, and the Germans did not want to go to war..This stuff out of Dershowitz is in the same category..

Maybe so. I have no idea how Alan thinks. He's a media hog.

Hatch would make a MUCH BETTER JUSTICE than he does a POLITICIAN. He is a KNOWN quantity, a conservative and anti-abortion. BUSH could do worse. IMHO the only negatives are his age and the fact that Derchowitz has endorsed him.

Could Dershowitz be embarking on the long overdue defection of the Jewish left for morally clearer and friendlier pastures?

Hard to say. He's got a book regarding the 2000 presidential election and how SCOTUS "stole" it from Al Gore.

But after all, now Bush will nominate a one-legged deaf muslim woman to the court. He should have nominated one to fill the O'Connor vacancy.
After all, Ramadan is right around the corner, and imagine the political bonus points he could score!
*eye roll*
In all honesty, your suggestion-putting all sarcasm aside-is not too far from the truth, unfortunately.

I don't really think so in Dershowitz's case. He remains an issue on the substantive issues. Thus, for example, he remains explicitly pro choice. It's just that as a self respecting professor of constitutional law, intellectual honesty compels him to recognize that Roe was a legal abomination

Agreeing with judicial strict constructionism regardless of personal belief seems Conservative to me.
