Stupid Katrina Quotes by Useful Idiots

Posted on 09/13/2005 10:06:44 AM PDT by april15Bendovr

Pierce Brosnan: DEAUVILLE, France (Hollywood Reporter) - Pierce Brosnan was the only big star on hand as the Deauville Festival of American Cinema got off to a quiet start over the weekend, and he took advantage of the spotlight to blast the Bush administration's handling of the carnage caused by Hurricane Katrina.

"This man called President Bush has a lot to answer for," the former James Bond actor told reporters Saturday. "I don't know if this man is really taking care of America. This government has been shameful."

Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."

Kanye West on NBC - "Bush Hates Blacks

Howard Dean "We must … come to terms with the ugly truth that skin color, age and economics played a deadly role in who survived and who did not." -

"You simply get chills every time you see these poor individuals...many of these people, almost all of them that we see are so poor and they are so black..." --Wolf Blitzer, CNN (9/1/05)

Jesse Jackson: "How can blacks be locked out of the leadership, and trapped in the suffering?"…..AND….."The UN relief effort for the tsunami was superior to the US effort for New Orleans and Louisiana. For American citizens, we deserve better."

Louis Farrakhan: "It is the wickedness of the people of America and the government of America that is bringing the wrath of God down," he told several hundred people at Tinsley Temple United Methodist Church.

Celine Dion: "How come it's so easy to send planes in another country, to kill everyone in a second, to destroy lives" when Americans need to serve their own country, she said.

Robert F Kennedy Jr: "Now we are all learning what it’s like to reap the whirlwind of fossil fuel dependence which Barbour and his cronies have encouraged. Our destructive addiction has given us a catastrophic war in the Middle East and--now--Katrina is giving our nation a glimpse of the climate chaos we are bequeathing our children."

Chris Rock - "Bush Hates Midgets"

On Wednesday night's Countdown, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, one night after he scathingly attacked President Bush's handling of hurricane relief, made what seemed to be a bizarre comparison between those who approve of Bush's handling of disaster relief and those who voted against Lincoln's re-election in 1864.

Calling the president "weak and uncertain," U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr. blasted Bush’s handling of Hurricane Katrina on Thursday. A lack of coordination has left the poor in critical danger, the Tennessee Democrat said.

Nationally syndicated radio host Don Imus is echoing comments of Bush-bashing rapper Kanye West, telling guest Tim Russert Tuesday morning that President Bush doesn't care "enough" about black people.

CNN interview with Kyra Phillips and Nancy Pelosi

KYRA PHILLIPS: Just another reality check. Congresswoman Pelosi, as we continue to follow, of course this developing information coming in. The hardest part. And I think it's far from over. We are going to continue to hear about people that have been trapped. I mean, you are talking about such a swath of a region here. It's just hard to listen to that, and to have to talk about that. And no doubt, it will be never ending. But I want to ask you, as you stand here and continue to criticize the administration, and criticize the director of FEMA, I do want to tell you the White House coming forward today. Scott McClellan coming forward today, and basically disputing your account of your meeting with the president. And I'm looking at it here saying that, you said you urged the president to replace the embattled FEMA director because of the poor emergency response to Hurricane Katrina. Um, however, McClellan saying that this is, that that's not what you discussed with the president. That you were discussing other things with the president, and that things are being twisted here.

REPRESENTATIVE NANCY PELOSI: That's absolutely not true. Mr. McClellan wasn't there. So he couldn't possibly know. What happened was, I said to the president, Mr. President, we can begin to help these victims of Katrina become whole again. First thing you can do is to replace Michael Brown as the head of FEMA. To which the president said, why would I do that? And I said, because of what happened last week. And the failure of FEMA to be the real link between the federal government and the people in need in our country. The social compact to which the president said, what didn't go right last week? That's what happened in the meeting. I stand by that. If the president thinks everything went right last week, and he wants to keep Michael Brown there, then I think that's going to be a cost to the American people and livelihood. But if he wants to then say that it didn't go right last week, then he should replace Michael Brown.

PHILLIPS: But if we go back. I mean, we can go back year after year after year and we can talk about FEMA. And what went wrong within FEMA. And should FEMA be under the Department of Homeland Security. But if we want to be historical here, and we want to go back in time, I mean, we can go back to the Times-Picayune and the investigation that when reporters revealed that time after time, moneys were asked for from all types of various politicians. And politicians you worked side by side with. And laws that you yourself vote on, and moneys that should have gone to Louisiana to take care of the problems with regard to the flood control systems. And I think it's unfair that FEMA is just singled out. There are so many people responsible...what has happened in the state of Louisiana.

REP. PELOSI: That is true. And I'm sorry that you think it's unfair. But I don't. I think it's unfair to the people who lost their family members, their live, their livelihoods, their homes, their opportunity. And FEMA has done a poor job. It had no chance.

PHILLIPS: What about all the warnings from the Army Corps of Engineers? Years ago. Saying there's a problem with these levees and with this city.

REP. PELOSI: Kyra --

PHILLIPS: It's Kyra.

REP. PELOSI: If you want to make a case for the White House, go on their payroll.

PHILLIPS: I'm not making a case for the White House, believe me. By all means.

Maybe They Were Reading Times Editorials

"Why were developers permitted to destroy wetlands and barrier islands that could have held back the hurricane's surge? Why was Congress, before it wandered off to vacation, engaged in slashing the budget for correcting some of the gaping holes in the area's flood protection?" -- New York Times editorial page, September 1.

vs.

"Anyone who cares about responsible budgeting and the health of America's rivers and wetlands should pay attention to a bill now before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. The bill would shovel $17 billion at the Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and other water-related projects -- this at a time when President Bush is asking for major cuts in Medicaid and other important domestic programs. Among these projects is a $2.7 billion boondoggle on the Mississippi River that has twice flunked inspection by the National Academy of Sciences. The Government Accountability Office and other watchdogs accuse the corps of routinely inflating the economic benefits of its projects. And environmentalists blame it for turning free-flowing rivers into lifeless canals and destroying millions of acres of wetlands -- usually in the name of flood control and navigation but mostly to satisfy Congress's appetite for pork. This is a bad piece of legislation." -- New York Times editorial page, April 13.

MS Gov. Haley Barbour's Suspicious Praise of the Federal Government

"[Mississippi Gov. Haley] Barbour's praise of the federal efforts has put him at odds with some other Mississippi officials who have bemoaned the slow response in their areas and has put him at risk of sounding like a Pollyanna to Mississippians still struggling in the storm's aftermath. But the strategy is unsurprising for a canny political strategist like Mr. Barbour -- a former political director in the Reagan White House, chairman of the Republican Party, and powerful Washington lobbyist -- who won the governorship two years ago by in part emphasizing the strength of his close ties to President Bush." -- Michael Cooper, September 7.

News or Editorial?

"The federal government's slow response to suffering inflicted by Hurricane Katrina, on top of the continued bloodshed in Iraq and high gasoline prices, has eaten into Mr. Bush's political strength, emboldening his opponents." -- Richard Stevenson, September 6.

"Until Friday, Mr. Bush had all but invited the torrent of criticism that he was out of touch with the scale of the human tragedy unfolding in Louisiana, often sounding off-key in the context of what may prove to be the worst natural disaster the nation has suffered." -- Richard Stevenson, September 3.

Keeping Bush on Defense

"Mr. Bush did not go into the heart of the city's devastation, where thousands of largely poor, black refugees have raged at the government's response to one of the worst natural disasters in American history. The White House cited security concerns and worries about causing more chaos as the reasons for keeping Mr. Bush away from the streets and the New Orleans Superdome, where refugees have lived in squalor and lawlessness for days….Throughout his day, Mr. Bush did not address the shocking images of the desperate and dying on television, even when he was asked by a reporter in Biloxi 'why the richest nation on earth can't get food and water to those people that need it.' Mr. Bush sidestepped the question and responded that helicopters had rescued people from rooftops and 'thousands of peoples' lives have been saved immediately, and that's good news.'" -- Elisabeth Bumiller, September 3.

Katrina -- Bush's Vietnam?

"Perhaps not since Richard M. Nixon faced Vietnam-era tumult abroad and at home has an American president had to meet quite the combination of foreign war, domestic tribulations and political division that President Bush now confronts, from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf Coast to Capitol Hill….Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales has drawn intense fire from some conservatives, who see him as insufficiently opposed to abortion. But his up-by-the-bootstraps background might now have extraordinary appeal for a president facing criticism that he failed to show adequate sensitivity to, or even particular initial awareness of, the plight of the overwhelmingly poor and minority population left behind in New Orleans when the storm and flooding struck." -- Todd Purdum, September 5.

How Dare Anyone Criticize N.O. Officials for N.O. Flooding

"In a reflection of what has long been a hallmark of Mr. Rove's tough political style, the administration is also working to shift the blame away from the White House and toward officials of New Orleans and Louisiana who, as it happens, are Democrats. 'The way that emergency operations act under the law is the responsibility and the power, the authority, to order an evacuation rests with state and local officials," Mr. Chertoff said in his television interview. 'The federal government comes in and supports those officials.' That line of argument was echoed throughout the day, in harsher language, by Republicans reflecting the White House line." -- Adam Nagourney and Anne Kornblut, September 5.

Perhaps Because Most People in New Orleans are Black?

"Most of those left behind in New Orleans are black." -- Text box to September 2 story by David Gonzalez.

Bush's "Imperial Act"

"Other Democrats cast Mr. Bush's first survey of the damage, from his window on Air Force One two days after the hurricane hit, as an imperial act removed from the suffering of the people below." -- Elisabeth Bumiller, September 2.

Worthy of MoveOn.org

"The populism of Huey Long was financially corrupt, but when it came to the welfare of people, it was caring. The churchgoing cultural populism of George Bush has given the United States an administration that worries about the House of Saud and the welfare of oil companies while the poor drown in their attics and their sons and daughters die in foreign deserts." -- Former Times Executive Editor Howell Raines in a column for the September 1 edition of the Los Angeles Times.

But Let's Do It Anyway

"But this seems like the wrong moment to dwell on fault-finding, or even to point out that it took what may become the worst natural disaster in American history to pry President Bush out of his vacation." -- From an August 31 editorial.

Pierce Brosnan?

Hey Pierce, considering your a long time coke addict who's been in and out of Betty Ford more times than Ozzy, notorious hollywood whore chaser, and one of the biggest pain in the asses to work with according to anyone involved in any films they've worked with you on, I'd say your opinion = worthless

Memorable Quotes from Me, Myself & Irene (2000)

Charlie Baileygates: Do you people take checks?

Limo Driver: Say that again. Do we people take checks?

You mean a black man?

Charlie Baileygates: No, I mean your company.

Limo Driver: Don't give me that backtracking bullshit, that was a racist slur!

Charlie Baileygates: I never said anything remotely racist!

Limo Driver: Oooh, so it's the little people thing, than? Charlie Baileygates: No!

Limo Driver: You think just coz I'm small you can just push me around? Well, come on my friend. Let's boogie! I'm gonna give a little lesson in low center of gravity!

[Limo Driver chases Charlie] Charlie Baileygates: Hey, cut it! Stop it now, Sir!

Limo Driver: Don't patronize me with that 'Sir' crap!

Chris Rock - "Bush Hates Midgets"

Aw, that was tongue in cheek; he was just tweaking NBC.

When I first heard it I was only half paying attention to the TV and I thought for sure he had said "Bush hates (the N word)"....I immediately scoured FR and the Internet for confirmation and when I found none realized I must've been mistaken.

Only the next day did I find out what he actually said.
