Bush Takes Responsibility for Blunders
By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer 14 minutes ago
President Bush said Tuesday that "I take responsibility" for failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina and said the disaster raised broader questions about the government's ability to respond to natural disasters as well as terror attacks.
"Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government," Bush said at joint White House news conference with the president of Iraq.
"To the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," Bush said.
The president was asked whether people should be worried about the government's ability to handle another terrorist attack given failures in responding to Katrina.
"Are we capable of dealing with a severe attack? That's a very important question and it's in the national interest that we find out what went on so we can better respond," Bush replied.
He said he wanted to know both what went wrong and what went right.

This is old news. Debate is well underway on an earlier thread. Okay, five minutes earlier.
"To the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," Bush said.

Words NEVER to be heard from the mouth of a LIBERAL.
A Huge Stupid Phucking Move!
Truman was a Liberal by the standards of his day, but he would be considered fairly Conservative now.
I believe President Bush just blew the Dems/Liberals out of the water with this comment! What a guy....Now who will they blame?? He stopped them in their tracks!! Now, on to their next victim.
Quit the Hysterics.
What did you WANT him to say? "I take NO responsibility." That would be a real bludgeon against him.
Now, with a reasonable vow to take responsibility to FIX FEDERAL DEFICIENCIES, the ball is in the other folks' courts, big time.
No so! Unless one is a huge moron you know that the LA governor and NO mayor totally screwed up. You also know that neither has the integrity to admit it. Bush shows great integrity and honesty and his "the buck stops here" approach will bring him respect. If he were to cower like the Liberals he would be no better than them.
Right! And I just checked CNN and they have already taken the "breaking news" off. This just undermined them all. They did not expect this.
Hey, watch Your language! The Father Above is Listening to everything we say.
Yeah. Now the media is going to have to investigate the details behind "to the extent ..."
Once they see the extent to which the state of LA blew it, I expect they'll hound Bush on a different subject. They will not report the extent of state shortcoming.
This will suck the wind out of the liberals' sails.
I voted for Dubya twice and still like him, but I am sick of his rolling over all the time and refusing to fight back...even a little bit. I think it is a failing of the entire Bush family. I used to think history would judge him well, but now I expect the verdict will be just about the same as that of his father. Too bad IMO.
However, we'll soon see, yet again, calls for impeachment over this. Liberals fail to see that you can't impeach a President just because you disagree with him. They failed to understand WHY Clinton was impeached. They still think it was was about "sex".
I, for one, respect our President for standing up to the liberal whiners. And THAT'S what he IS doing!
To the extent we didn't recognize in time that the Louisiana Governor and Senator as well as the Mayor of New Orleans are all total morons we are responsible.

Actually, it was quite clear in his statement.
The MSM was already working that angle, that won't change one iota from this statement. Congress is going to confront this event, Nagin and Blanco will pay dearly for their idiocy. Patience, buddy.

I agree. It is a tragic failing. Tragic for the real America that wants to keep living -- and not become a socialist, Euro-style state...
John F. Kennedy, also.
Where is the earlier thread? I couldn't find it.
