With the agencies giving out 4 figure debit cards to whoever stands in a refugee line, the incentive to actually work is a non starter.
That is a great idea. I thought of that one, last week, but cannot bring myself to believe that any significant percentage of those evacuees actually WANT to seek gainful employment. For many of them, it would be alien to their nature and their past count-on-Sugar-Daddy experience.
OK...lets think this through in the mind of an evacuee..
a) I sit in a hotel room, paid for by the government, watch TV, drink beer, and wait for my next check.
b) I get off my a55, go out and sweat for $7.50/hr, and start a life that involves hard work, saving, building, and growing out of my poverty.
What was the question?
You gotta be kidding. Illegal aliens do the work that our citizens are not willing to do. Which of them would take the outdoor, hard labor jobs that most of the illegals do? Now...I am against illegal aliens coming to this country and working....but they certainly fill a niche that our 'worthy' citizens will not fill. If there were no illegal aliens to take the low pay...employers might have to raise what they pay.
Kennedy is on the TV harumphing about 'unequal opportunity' for the poor. What a bloviating blob of blathering blubber!
The dems have been in control of NO for 100 years. That city is in ruins before the storm, economically and else-wise. The people were poor, broke, drugs, alcohol abuse, multipule children by multiple fathers. The dems had 100 years to FIX IT. But, did not. Bush is blamed for NO's poverty. Klinton was in charge for 8 years. Did he FIX NO's poverty? Atlanta's? Chicago's? NY City's? LA's? NO! A freaking government school educated person can see that, if he could get a view over the stack of free stuff, mostly given to him by big bad Wal Mart. Or looted.
Unfortunately Americans have to make enough to live on after taxes medical and other expenses. An illegal making $10 per hour under the table is in better shape than a citizen earning a taxable $12 per hour.
There also needs to be a BIG incentive for companies hiring American workers at a decent wage?
Good article. I love this lady.
I agree jobs for those who want them. That is the US. However, most in NO seemed to rely on the mailman for a paycheck not an employeer.
what a crackpot idea, with a liberal like Bush in the Whitehouse, it'll never work.
This is the same as the pre-Katrina argument that you could solve two of the biggest problems in our country with one action: deport all illegal aliens and discontinue wellfare. Welfare recipients could more than cover the labor shortage. This is one of the best ideas I've ever heard but it will never happen for two big reasons. 1 - no politician in office today has the stones to take on the fevered whining and hating that the left would put out (who would probably successfully classify said politician as a poor-hating racist). 2 - those who have been living off the government teet since Johnson gifted us this great society have no work ethic and have not gained a single job skill during their time on the couch.
Work? You've got to be kidding. They're holding out for 9/11 type payouts so they'll never have to work again.
"Remember how Bush was talking glibly about inviting "willing workers" to come here from other countries? We should give affirmative-action preference to willing workers from Louisiana and Mississippi."
Why do you think he says that? Look at the welfare state laid bare in front of you. The President probably feels we need to import a new 'working class' because the one we have won't work. Heck, Senator Landrieu even said so herself. "Can hardly get 'em to work on a sunny day." We can thank LBJ's Great Society for all of this.
Mexico City, May 17, 2005. In a speech Friday, Fox praised the dedication of Mexicans working in the United States, saying they're willing to take jobs that "even blacks" won't do.
I hate when reality interferes with best intentions.
My mom still lives in the inner city in DC. The McDonalds around the corner from her has nothing but Hispanic employees. They all looked to be in their 20s to 50s.I asked the manager, who was black, why and he told me that the local black kids don't want to do that kind of work. Let's be honest. A lot of our slum dwellers don't want to do honest, hard work and will go to great lengths to avoid it.
Our Black Americans have been pushed behind the favored race, Latinos.
