"If Bush had understood that his central task was to forge national unity, as he seemed to shortly after Sept. 11, the country would never have become so polarized."Bush has grown his governing majority in 2002 and 2004 above what he had in 2000.
That's not polarizing leadership, that's unifying leadership.

I suspect that the anger is because fewer people are listening and reading those like E.J. who promote the dissension...
Fox News ratings just keep climbing while these guys ratings and readership keep falling. Being a mouthpiece for the DNC must be getting more and more embarrassing. You have no vision. You have no plan. You just exist to oppose Bush and what he wants to do.
OK, there is an agenda but it is socialism and while they all believe in it... they have to put their philosophy in terms of "we really, really care about you (Blacks, Gays, Feminist, Academics, Journalists, Environmalist)" so vote for us because we care and we have a secret plan (John Kerry) to make you happy by creating a socialist, environmalist, utopia...
The truth is anyone who wants to work and is physically able in this country can. Those who are unable have a social safety net to support them. They may not have as much as some but there are few in this country who are truly hungry and cold.

Who's E. J. Dionne? He's this dorky looking grey-haired geek, with a tongue that doesn't fit in his mouth, so he lisps and slobbers when he speaks....
In other words he's a kid that got his a@# beat everyday in school, all the kids made fun of, only got to go out with ugly chicks, so grew up to be a liberal.
He couldn't "do" anything, could "make" anything, couldn't "build" anything, so he became a journalist and basically parrots what other liberal humps say in order for them to "like" him... and give him a job.
he's like a manly "Barney Frank"....roflmao

Wishful thinking EJ. Hate to be the one to rain on all the Bush Basher's parade, but GW will be President until Jan 2009 and the Washington Post is still irrelevant. Learn to live with it EJ.

Quite right. Mr. Dionne is a navel-gazing pussy who wouldn't fight to defend his country if the Russkies were coming up the Potomac in gunboats.
The unemployment rate in America is 4.9%; nearly 70% of Americans dwell in homes they own - this is not only a record for America but the world; interest rates are still at historic lows; America is the only nation in the world taking an active role against Islamic pagans who believe that all westerners are inherently evil and deserve to die.
That's a LOT of very GOOD news.
Mr. Dionne - anyone can see what's wrong, but can you see what's right? Apparently not.
Phew. Feel better now.
Viva Bush! Viva America!
