Umm, all the Balkans countries(Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece) fought tooth and nail to keep Islam away and the successfully succeeded to do so. Turkey WAS the Ottoman Empire unless, of course, you are mixing apples and oranges and might be thinking of Byzant.

"Oh, please, she was just using one of those lame websites (eg: familytree.com or ancestors.com) where they are using famous European names and they make you think you are related to them. "

Do you have a source or is that your opinion.

My point is, not all of Europe was liberated after the battle for Vienna. Some of Europe is still in Turkish hands.

Do you have any source that she is beside her claims? Let's see, born in NYC, home-grown in Hollywood, typical liberal. She claims her father is a descendant but then if it's true, there is a genealogy somewhere available which will prove it to be the truth. If you can prove it to me, I will agree with you (and her) but until then she is as much as a Sobiesky descendant as Oprah is a Zulu. I am sorry, but for the life of me I cannot see such a stinking Liberal making descendant claims with such a great man as King Sobiesky.

Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania were NOT in Turkish hands, they were vassals which is quite a difference.

I repeat myself, you should be proud of the King and not of some clueless Liberal nut (who happens to be born of Polish parents) and her claims to grandeur.

Sad, most Americans have no idea as to what the Crusades really were. Many have been brainwashed to believe that it was Christian aggression against Muslim countries in the Middle East.

I've discussed this many times with friends and colleagues, they have a hard time understanding that to us this conflict (WOT) is new, but to the Islamofacists it has never ended. Al Queda's words after attacking Spain serve to support this conclusion.

Understanding the context of what and why we are at war will help in assuring victory. Understanding what the world would be like today if Vienna had fallen would only reinforce that failure today is not an option....IMHO

I saw her on Leno also, but don't remeber her ever mentioning anything about being related to the King. Why would she? Leno, nor his audience, would even know what she's talking about (or care). I doubt she even knows who Jan III Sobieski is.

But it is true, Lee lee is an idiot. Did you hear that ridiculous poem she wrote and recited on Leno? Howard Stern still plays that on his show occasionally for a laugh.

I was once walking down the street in NJ and saw the last name written on a mailbox. It's a common last name, like Dabrowski. Just because its the same name doesn't mean your related.

Remeber Sobieski didn't come from a Polish dynasty. He was elected king. Even at that time, it could've been a common last name.

Not true (except for Romania, or more appropriately, Wallachia, Transylvania, and Moldavia).

I distinctly recall her making mention of her being a descendant of the king while she was on Leno. I was shocked to hear it. What I further recall is that wretched ' poem ' she read for all of Leno's audience. She mentioned she wrote it on the day of or the day after 9/11. It was very painful to listen to her make such a fool of herself.
She and about every other young American girl I met these days remind me of the girls I went to college with in Boston: liberal, self involved and basically very silly. Some of them will grow up - others will have their heads stuck in their azz for the rest of their days.

You claimed in an earlier post that the actress actually went to a web site and obtained the information she and her family has used to claim relation to the king. That is quite a claim to make and unless you know her personally or she told you as such you really shouldn't post such ' facts '.
I simply asked you for a source. I thought you might have read it somewhere. Asking me to ' prove she is related to Sobieski ' is ridiculous - I asked YOU to back up your own claim.
I have no idea if she is related to King Sobieski although she sure as hell looks a bit like him which is pretty amazing considering 300 odd years separate both people.
Yes - I know shes a typical liberal nut case - the kind of nut case prone to make up stories and presenting them as facts as liberals most often do. After reading a bit about her upbringing her family most likely is as liberal and nutty as she is.

Just because its the same name doesn't mean your related.

Precisely my point, ALL the European dynasties have their own ongoing "Who's who" genealogy book but, as you said, most people watching TV in US wouldn't have a clue who Sobiesky was so you'll run into many with such pretenses. Remember Anastasia Romanov pretender? Who could have claimed that she was or not the real Princess Anastasia? Only DNA testing done after her death proved that she was an impostor. Unfortunately communism destroyed monarchies as the Sobieskys of Poland, the Romanovs of Russia, the Hohenzolern-Sigmaringen of Romania, the Karageorgevics of Serbia and the Saxe-Coburg-Gothas of Bulgaria(if I missed someone, my apologies) and the family members who managed to survive they spread all over the world, allowing impostors and people suffering of grandeur to claim kinship with them.

I recommend you read my posting again. I made such statement knowing of many people here using such websites and discovering that they are connected to lords, barons, dukes, kings and queens simply because those websites are just using common names and not taking into consideration the "common man" which was more likely to immigrate to US generations ago. Use for common sense for Pete's sake.

And your proof being?

Any European History text book. If you are too lazy to go to a library, goto wikipedia.org and look up Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece.

All of the Balkans were part of the Ottoman empire until the 19th century. Not just vasals -- they had no political autonomy whatsoever, except for the principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia.

Actually, her father was claiming the heritage in the early 1990's, before the websites.
My father, who grew up in Poland, asked Mr. Sobieski about the name.
Sobieski is a painter/portatist by trade.

You forgot the Hohenzollerns of Prussian/Germany and the Hapsburgs of Austria-Hungary. However, in both cases, the Emperors renounced their throwns at the conclusion of WWI.
Likewise, the Romanovs gave up power to the Karinsky government before the communists took over. The Kingdom of Poland ended in the 1790s.
