9/11 Events Spur Reflection, Rally

Holding up pictures of their loved ones and signs that read "Preserve Sacred Ground," more than 500 relatives of Sept. 11 victims rallied at the World Trade Center site Saturday against a proposed museum.

In Washington, about 1,500 people took part in the Pentagon's walk-in tour of the site where a hijacked plane crashed into the building.

Family members worry the International Freedom Center will take attention away from those who died in the attack. They said the museum should not be allowed to show exhibits about struggles for freedom around the world.

"These are important stories to tell," said Jack Lynch, whose firefighter son Michael Lynch is one of the 2,749 people who died at the trade center. "Elsewhere, not at America's memorial."

The rally by more than a dozen family groups came a day before the fourth anniversary of the terrorist attacks. A bouquet of white flowers and several single, red roses were tucked into the metal fence surrounding the site, while huge American flags hung outside nearby office buildings.

"The IFC threatens to turn ground zero into a place of endless controversy rather than a place of honor," said Anthony Gardner, whose brother Harvey died at the trade center.

The Freedom Center and another museum, the Drawing Center, were chosen more than a year ago to occupy cultural space at the site in a building close to the planned "Reflecting Absence" memorial.

But rebuilding officials said last month the Drawing Center would look elsewhere for a home and that the Freedom Center would have to submit more detailed plans and respond to family objections to ensure its place at the site. A mediator has recently been recruited to help museum officials and the families communicate.

"On Sunday, the city planned to observe moments of silence Sunday at 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. to mark the times that each hijacked jetliner struck the twin towers, and at 9:59 a.m. and 10:29 a.m., for the times each tower collapsed.

More than 600 family members who lost brothers or sisters will read the victims' names at the site, while Gov. George E. Pataki, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice all planned commemorative readings."

Absolutely insulting! What will you do about it???

Final Design Announced
The design for the permanent Memorial for Flight 93 was announced on September 7, 2005 amid overwhelming support . .

So the mark of the Jihadists will forever emblazon our landscape. Is it time to cry for America yet...???????????? This design seems to be a fitting memorial for the Muslims who died aboard Flt 93. The hijackers whose ashes are fused into the shale with those of their victims, of all the shapes, in all of geometry, they pick the symbol of Muslim power, THE CRESCENT!!!

Why not a monument of the passengers beating the crap out of the hijackers?

"When it comes to a memorial, all mankind sympathizes," he said." The idea of the Crescent of Embrace, Murdoch said, is to be a gesture of healing and bonding.

Muslims didn't/don't sympathize - THEY consider this to have been a great victory!
This is like making a holocaust memorial in the shape of a swastika. Absolutely disgusting. I think is a slap in the face of every solider that is fighting terrorism now. And a shameful way to honor those that have died in this fight.
Recognize it for what it is....

A commemoration for those who bravely died in their fight to expand islam!

Fouad El Bayly, leader of the Islamic Center of Johnstown, said the crescent isn't a holy symbol, but one identified with the lunar Muslim calendar.
