The national headquarters for the Girls Scouts of America is a brand new huge building in my city. I have wondered for a long time how such a "humble" group could afford such an expensive looking place. Now, I'm convinced that they are being bankrolled by monied leftist groups.
It'll be a snowy day in July before their cookies enter my home again.
Thanks for the post.
American Heritage Girls sounds like a great alternative, but they still don't have a troop in my neck of the woods. (Middle Nowhere, PA)
What I see happening is a movement back through the eons to worshipping a fertility symbol, the earth mother, primitive, whorey, egotistical, anti-God, nasty, idolatrous, by um - modern? enlightened? people.
Here is what is completely wrong with this! Why would a lesbian wish to address a convention for youth (Girl Scouts). In publicly representing herself as a lesbian, she is informing the world that she desires sex with other women. So why does she need to be involved with the youth convention which is a program for minors?
ping-a-ling!
I didn't have a very high opinion of the Girl Scouts in the first place. This further lowers my opinion.
As contrasted to the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts seem to be more interested in selling cookies to bankroll their organization than they are in the outdoor skills and activities that girls should be engaging themselves in. Now it would appear that they're using their organization to promote a feminist political agenda. That's their right. But it's also the right of parents to decline to allow their daughters to participate in the organization. And it's also everyones right to not buy their cookies, Which aren't very good anyway.
This AHG sounds like a better alternative. I think the "Y" has an alternate organization as well. (Camp Fire Girls?)
My wife (I helped as a registered GS myself) had a GS troop for 10 years. Saw our girls (including my daughter) go from Brownies to Seniors. By that time, the late 90s, GS (and our regional counsel, to a lesser degree) had become so politically correct it was pretty bad. Got involved with another troop as co-leader two years ago and just couldn't take it. GS has become just plain disgusting in many ways. It is very sad. Most of the tasks I did in helping the troop over the years are banned now. Men are all treated as being potential molesters and rapists. And not too subtly, either.
A friend and GS volunteer and leader for 17 years was kicked out of scouting. Her crime? At the camp, she was smoking in the properly designated area for adults to do this. Unknown to her a girl had snuck out there and saw her smoking. She was booted out of scouts after 17 years of service! Left a sour taste her her mouth I can tell you.
The left has really trashed a fine organization. I am amazed the Boy Souts have done as well as they have in resisting. The wackos corrupted GS from within, and since they haven't been able to do that with BS, they are attacking them legally from without.
Of course, she wants to make heterophobia and homosexism mandatory.
It's not the thin mints?
Seriously, I am stunned at the direction the Girl Scouts have taken.
Amazing... while the Boy Scouts continued to get pilloried, the Girl Scouts are now promoting lesbianism, and pro-choice stances with these speakers. How absolutely sad.
And this folks is why the left does not oppose the girl scouts.
Sign your kids up for Awana or something else.
OK... The "Girl Scouts" are hereby added to my list of organizations that I'll have absolutely NOTHING to do with.
I hated the Brownies for my year in them. Unfortunately, my daughter is due to be one this year because 99% of the girls in her class in her (Catholic) school belong to one troop. I was not going to let her join, but my ex decided that it was a sign of my bad parenting (he wants to get 50/50 custody so he can stop paying his meager child support) that I kept her away from the other girls like that. Grrrrrrr. I am hoping since the troop is girls from the Catholic school and led by one of the moms that it is kept insulated from the BS.
The Catholic Elementary school where my son attended seemed to have a decently organized Girl Scout troop. He was in the Cub Scout counterpart based out of that Church and, as was already mentioned, was completely immersed in what I would call traditional American values, family and social.
Even so I found it was a good idea to be present at the parents meetings if only to hear of the upcoming proposed (read changeable) events.
Very sad to read about the shifting values of the Girl Scouts.
Thanks for posting this!

Why my children were all in Camp Fire!
